Post Kohler 40 can it be saved?
my buddies house over in Braithwaite got about 8-9' of water and after just getting his boat back from excel repairing the cracks in the transom, and having the motor rebuilt from it self destructing this is how he came home to find it. we had to tip it on the trailer fender and drag it out with the truck, and flip it back upright. when we did plenty of water came pouring out. ill prob wind up rewiring the boat and putting new switches etc for him as he was having issues from the rear of the panel being in the bilge anyway. repack the bearings on the trailer and should be good eh?

what do you think are the chances of saving this motor after about a week, week and a half of salt/brackish water sitting in the motor??

I'm gonna say yes. I have a 4 wheeler that spent 2 weeks inside my uncles garage underwater after Katrina. Do not, under any circumstances try to start the motor!!! First thing- pull spark plugs, turn engine over to blow most of the water out of the cylinders. Drain the oil. Pull the spark plugs. Fill engine with diesel. May need to pour diesel into each cylinder. I used a small funnel thru the spark plug hole. And let it soak in. Drain all the diesel. Flush oil thru the motor until all that's coming out the drain plug is fresh oil.
Turn the motor over by hand while it is full of diesel. (place motor in gear, spin prop by hand) diesel should come out of spark plug holes. Try to get as much diesel out of the cylinders this way. Then you can hook up a battery and spin it over for a while to get the rest of the diesel out. Put her back together and fire it up. May need to do a few oil changes to get all of the water. Use cheap oil and change it often at first.

Also, carb will need to be torn down and cleaned. I did this to my uncles 4 wheeler and it's still running strong today.

SOME of the motor can be saved I imagine, but the whole thing would need to be torn down and gone through piece by piece if it were mine. A new block, wiring harness, and clutch assembly would speed up the process.

Smoke's methood is worth a shot though.

im sure hell be glad to have a chance of saving it.. i dont think hes gonna attempt the cleanup himself. i told him to check with Andy but not sure how jammed up he is a week before teal season starts in case he decides he wants to fool wit it yall think anything will need to be done to the drive box other than draining & cleanup?? anything special as far as the clutch

he has insurance but i think was able to buy back cheap so itll prob be worth to fix.

Swamp, I have a buddy here in Belle Chasse that is a small engine mechanic. He does all of my motor work. I can ask him if he would be willing to mess with it.
