Post 18/48 35gtr speed?
Picked up my motor tax free weekend. Runs good, Tim is noisy going down.
Was told this is normal? Have any of you guys experienced a high pitch squeal in your trim, while trim down.

Speed- 2 guys 145, 1 dog 28lb= 26.1 best
Mostly running 3500-4090 rpms at this speed

Any ideas, I pretty much expected this rig to run 28 consistently,

Boat is a 18/48 .125 sealed Double bottom, hunt deck, 6.5 ft rake, dry storage up front.

Idle is set pretty low i think ( 825) prop in the water. wants to die in deep water when going neutral to fwd, or n to rev.

Most people's speeds are inflated. Is it a gatortail boat?

Owen, it's not a gt boat, bt yea a couple of my buddies warned me of these inflated speeds. Just didn't know if my rpms to speed matched up. I'm trying to get te height correct on my transome, first run it sat real low so it was dragging the lower unit. I put a 1 in ss shim under the mount to raise it. Trimmed up in highest position, I can stick a 2x4 under the boat and the lower unit sits about 1inch from btm of boat. Abt rt?

You will run 28 with nothing in the boat and one person. Trim up until you here the prop sort of WHINE then back it down a touch. RUN WFO that is usually your best setting for speed.
26 with 2 guys and a dog is about right.
bump your idle up to 1000-1200

The flatter your prop runs with the surface the more efficient the prop will push.

Basics for any briggs would be to have WOT neutral RPMS at 4250-4300, Idle about 1000-1200, and do NOT over fill the crankcase. 2 quarts only. Run 93 octane non ethanol fuel if possible.
The trim on the gtr is about as noisy as an oudboard. At least mine is. It is an electric motor.

Once you get some hours on it and the feel you will get better results.

Good deal, I used
Mobil One 10w-30
Chevron 93
Stabil

As far as the trim, sounds normal like any gtr I have been in, bt goin down has an awful squeal. I called Hoyt and he told me it was normal w the new trim units, im having a hard time w it bc it sounds bad. I have a lil video w the noise if u could get me ur email I can email it. I cant figure out how to post video or picture

The new hydraulic trim is similar to the Merc trim, it makes a high pitch squeal going down, just like a big outboard

Man that is a totall different trim unit than what I have on my 08 model. Yours is a heck of a lot faster than mine!!!! My only experience with hydraulics is on hydraulic steerin in a 4x4. Abnormal noise usually points to air in the fluid.

It seems it is VERY similar to the Merc Self contained unit.

Not sure. I have not had the chance to see one or personally use a newer motor yet.

That sounds like a perfect size. I'd like to see a 1846 in person. I love the size of my 1644 but I will have an 18 next time.
