 Engine temp? Just bought an Airboat with a big block 454. I'm curious about what temp the engine should run. The boat has an oil cooler mounted at the top of the cage. The temp when running it hard stays about 120-130deg. When idleing it'll go to 140deg. I know too much heat is bad, and also not enough is bad. Is this about right or should it be running a little warmer.
BTW i posted on ABT also. I just want an answer this year.

Re: Engine temp? Oil or coolant temp? Coolant temp should be 160-190 ish depending on your thermostat. Oil temp should be close to the coolant temp IIRC.

Re: Engine temp? I don't think so. i bought the boat used. From what i hear not many people run thermostats on airboats because most of them run on the warmer side when you run at an average of 3800 to 5000 rps all the time.

Re: Engine temp? the cooler it runs the better in the heat of the summer it shouldnt be more than 190-200
