 Re: Battery???
best thing to do for batteries is take care off them. I use the shumacher 1.5 amp chargers to charge and maintain my batteries. even lawn mowers and tractors. once i use them i put them back on charge. also keep em filled with distilled water. my trolling battery are '08s and the lawn mower battery in my boat is a '09. both are wal-mart. I see discussions on here arguing whether to use a high amp or low amp charge but from personal exp i use 1.5 or 2 amp.

 Re: Battery???
Optima is not a gel battery BTW. it is an AGM (absorbed Glass Matt). IMO they arent worth the cost. I have one in my Toyota and Even fully charged, when my truck is in COlld or near freezing temps it wont start. With a lead acid battery it starts...

 Re: Battery???
just keep in mind if you go with an AGM batt or even Gel Cell that youll be better off sending the lil coin (i got a 15A from amazon for about $50) on the charger that can specifically charge all three. a big mistake alot of ppl make when they spend the extra money on an optima is they hook up a standard charger which will work, however, an AGM charger runs a specific pattern to reduce memory effects and completely recharge the batt. often times the extended duration and life of the AGM battery will be lost due to incomplete charging making ppl think theyve wasted there money. if you have an optima that seems to have seen better days as far as life there is a "recycling" procedure you could try along with an AGM charger may give you a little longer without reinvesting in a new "Lead Weight"

 Re: Battery???
You can charge the optima which is an AGM battery with a NORMAL battery charger. As long as the voltage is above 10.5V most chargers will charge them porperly. I am not fluent in gel batteries so i will refrain from posting until I know about them.
But saying a normal Battery charger will not charge and optima is wrong. I have done it personaly and it works just fine.

 Re: Battery???
Check out Odyssey batteries. I am getting one for my Kawasaki Teryx and if it does well I'm going to purchase one for my boat.
