27 ProDrive on 1648 Tracker Grizzly
viewtopic.php?f=3&t=15447viewtopic.php?f=5&t=32327&p=378015&hilit=27+prodrive#p378015Seems to be the only review I can find on this...and it seems to get jacked by the 'go with the 36' guys. Anyone else have anything to add? Lets also try and keep away from 'put it on another boat - like an 1854' The 1648 is what its on. And will stay as such. Keep it to the 27hp - I know the 36hp is bigger - took some time, but with all the math and calculus - I now know its a bigger engine. Thanks in advance - happy hunting.

Its for actual reviews, not questions about products.
Pd has some of the best customer service in the industry. The kohler is a good engine. It will struggle with heavy loads on that little boat though.

I have a 27pd on the 14x48 tracker does good by myself it run bad with a load last weekend. In the process of cutting the transom to see if that will help.

I was shock to see how much alum supports they have in their transom. 2x1" alum tube every 5 " on center. Then a 4x1 across the top. And a 2x 1 across the middle all welded together I'm more worried about the bottom of the hull than the transom.

Re: 27 ProDrive on 1648 Tracker Grizzly
The PD is heavy, say compared to a 27 LT. I have the 1648 Grizzly and I've seen 35 MB shorties on them and they ran ok, the hull plows of course, a conventional outboard would be better, you'd have to exercise caution with backwash because the motor is heavy and the back would squat more. My 27 LT does ok on it.

Re: 27 ProDrive on 1648 Tracker Grizzly
Yes, the main reason I compromised with this hull was the relatively low price, around 2K (back in 2004) , it is now listed on the tracker site for $2700. It is an economy hull, designed for a conventional outboard... but at least an LT will operate efficiently "enough" on most regular jon boats...the surface drive is less "forgiving" and demands a true mud hull...my good friend finally tore up his rivetted jon transom after running five years with a 35 shorty, but he had that fixed/beefed up and he's duck hunting again. From the conditions that the shorties run up north, I can appreciate why reverse would be a necessary option...that is not the case here and you can get by without it here. Hope you can test drive that combo!

Re: 27 ProDrive on 1648 Tracker Grizzly
I used to run a 36 PD on a 1648 grizzly. I sold the boat and trailer cause I thought the motor was gonna tear the transom off sooner or later.
