 My Intro
Howdy. I am a mud motor newb who is here to be educated. Before i start asking my dumb questions, I wanted to properly introduce myself. I live in SE Texas and flyfishing is my game. Here are some pics that i have taken to give you a better feel about me.
This is why I am switching to a mud motor.
I like Beer
This is the type of boat i want to stick a mud motor on, except its a tiller.
I hope to be a good forum member.

 Re: My Intro
To answer your question... As long as you dont plan to go anywhere else but the marshes, and granted there not many rocks or stumps, then a copperhead 18hp would be about the lightest motor you'll be able to put on it with enough power to actuall push it. Now, if theres stumps or anything else, then I strongly suggest getting a hull made for a mud motor.

 Re: My Intro
Lol well he said LIGHT! I guess I should have thought about it, I for some reason didint think that boat would float a big block but just looked back at the dimension and I dont see it having any problem floating a 35hp Get a go devil! Nothing else compares!!

 Re: My Intro
Look at the last pic Cort. He has a 70 on it now. It would possibly handle a big block, you think?

 Re: My Intro
Yea, I think i know who posted about the 12 hp copperhead.
The skiff in the pic is not the one i will be using. It only has a 40 honda on it right now, and the honda weighs about 200. I am looking for a mud motor in that weight range if possible.

 Re: My Intro
A 27 Go Devil Long Tail is 195 #'s and a 35 GDLT is 225. Either one should push that boat pretty well. Does the boat you're looking to put it on have a poling platform similar to the boat pictured? If so, you'll have to remove it in order to turn. You can have another made that has supports that run the full beam of the boat and drop down close to the rub rails. You may still lose a little steering, but with a long tail you're not gonna have incredible agility anyway. Good luck though, you'll love it if you get one!
Also, if you usually run more than 2 or 3 miles to your spots, I strongly recommend a Surface Drive over a long tail. A 35 GDSD adds 40 #'s, weighing in at 265. The LT will wear your ass out on long runs, especially with that V hull!

 Re: My Intro
So, I was just looking at the skiff I am considering and it has sponsons on it. Can you use a surface drive with them? can you turn with them?

 Re: My Intro
I am just guessing Sponson = Pod......for those with the puzzled look. You'll get mixed reviews based on what type of motor you're running. But, for the most part, you will have a lot of people say not a good combo.

By looking at those pics, are you in Golden Triangle area? If so, I might have something you'd be interested in.

 Re: My Intro
It should be nice going from a outboard with trim , neutral and reverse to a mm with none. Get you some fiberglass protectors

 Re: My Intro
Are you dead set on the boat? You may be better off selling it and getting the full meal deal. There are some nice set-ups on here as far as poling platforms and casting platforms go. You may want to look at a CC rig w/ extended decks and catwalks as well. Just a thought.

 Re: My Intro
Google "inshore powerboats" and check out the gallery. There is a slick little glass hunting/technical skiff with a mudmotor.

Looking at the pics, was thinking instead of switching to a mudmotor, you could loose the flyrod and switch to a bow and arrow, save a lotta money.lol.
