Post 36pd dies?
Hey guys I have a stage 1 36pd.. I was out working on duck blinds last weekend and as I was coming back in to the boat ramp I was running wo in deep water and it just dropped rpms and died.. It started right back up and I continued back to the ramp.. It doesn't do it all the time just once in awhile.. Just wondering if any of you have had this problem.. And suggestions would help. Thanks

Saltwater on plug wires. Wrap em with electrical tape.

Or sounds like maybe you lost fuel pressure? Is it a CDI motor?

Sounds like a fuel issue like OD said. Check all your fittings for air leaks.

No salt water around here.. An it is a cdi motor.. And I put an epump on it and checked all the clamps/fittings/etc multiple times so I don't believe it is fuel

How many times did you use it after you put the pump on?

Not sure man, I don't have an e pump but unless someone else has an idea, I still think it is a fuel starving issue...

It runs fine when it runs, right?

Do you have a water separating fuel filter? I had similar trouble once because my fuel filter was "clogged" with water. The filters are designed to let smaller fuel molecules pass, but stop the larger water particles. If you get enough water in there (thanks ethanol) you can essentially clog the filter and not enough fuel can pass through to the carb.

Mine has done the same thing a few times. Last season it happened almost every time I cranked up and started running. I'd get on WOT, it would get to about 4k RPMs and just die like it was starving for gas. Would crank right back up and be fine the rest of the trip. Thought I was hitting the rev limiter, but it wouldn't bounce it would just die.. Redid all my fuel lines, connections, filter, and fuel primer bulb couple weeks ago. Found a small crack in the primer bulb when I pulled it out. Everything has been good through the last couple of weeks hunting, until it did it again 1 more time the other day... died around 4k RPMs cranked right back up and was ok for the rest of the 20 minute run. So I don't know.

Bug's was doing the exact same thing, it turned out to be the quick connects on the gas tank.

I had the same problem and it was a faulty circuit breaker between the rev limiter and the wiring harness.
The breaker would trip and my engine would sputter and die. I had the type of breaker that auto reset and it had to be 8+ years old. Replaced the breaker and it hasn't acted up again.

Also, i would loose my trim power when the circuit breaker flipped.
The engine would turn over, but not start (just like it does if you pull your kill switch). I would know when the breaker auto reset because the trim would start working again and then the motor would start up first turn of the key.

I thought it was a fuel problem when it first happened.. So I replaced the hose/clamps also got rid of the quick connect on my tank and went to a direct pickup out of the tank.. Still did it so I put an epump on it seemed to solve it until it did it Saturday.. I'm stumped

Camo,
If it happens again, how should i disconnect the rev limiter?
Do i need to do anything other than cut the wires going to and from it?
I am asking from an "in the field" perspective

Honestly, if you have a cdi motor, you don't need the aftermarket rev limiter. The coils have a built in 4300 rpm rev limit.

But to answer your question, yes, just cut or unplug the green wire.

Can you idle and cruise around at low rpm with no issues? Only happens during a stretch of WOT?

Were you talking about the built in cdi rev limiter, or do you have Mikuni & rev box??

Something else to check is the primer bulbs have a small check valve in them, if it colapses then the motor will starve for fuel, easy inexpensive repair. It shut me down on a hunt, the only way for me to stay running was pump the bulb constantly.

Thats before i had my electric fuel pump though but if your fuel pump doesn't stay on then i can see it happening.
