 New 27hp Kohler just quiting????
Need Help I am pulling my hair out!! Here's the scoop. Purchased new Go Devil Rig with Kohler 27 Longtail 4/2012 Ran like a top always. Run at least every two weeks I work offshore 14/14 but have always run it on days off. Went to my hunting area yesterday and it ran fine for 30-40 mins then just started knocking sputtering and boom DEAD. Here is what I have done so far but the crazy part is this:
*Motor runs like a top when level or tilted forward all the way down. As soon as it tilts down (prop toward the water) it quits almost instantly??? It does not matter if the boat is in the water or on the trailer as in load / no load??
1. I have changed all the fuel in the tank 2. Changed the water fuel sep and inline trash filter 3. Put new plugs 4. Removed the carburator top and float cleaned all fuel out and carb cleaner and blew out jets and all passages with air compressor. 5. Run the fuel out of the motor 3-4 times 6. Removed the fuel line from the carb and pumped the ball it gets fuel 7. Changed the Yamaha style fuel connection on the tank, also tried without any connection strait hose in the tank? 8. Disabled the Mercury switch- made no difference 9. Always used stabil and or sea foam
Carburator was spottles no old gas smell or varnish or trash. This motor has 16hrs on it and has run perfect. It ran perfect for 30-40 mins then started this bullshit. Bringing it to Go-Devil in the morning I guess I just have no earthly idea?? Anybody see this before

Almost sounds like an air leak in you gas line. Is it possible that the fuel line is stretching when tilted down?

No I dont think? I even fashoned another fuel line and connected strait to the motor bypassing the fuel water filter? This is a F*cking mess. No shit bird lawnmower guys around here will look at it cause it is a go devil "outboard" they dont work on them?? I have to drive 100 miles to GD, but I am sure they will get it strait?? I am not a mechanic but owned of Shit and Junk in my life to troubleshoot some?? I am sure it will be on my nickel no matter what "its ethanol gas" I am sure go devil is the most honest choice for this?? Hell it is my third engine from them over the years always had good service just never needed it!!

What is your oil level? Also, unhook the green wire from the oil pressure sensor. (Under the carb) see if it still does it. Also unplug the fuel solenoid from the carb and see if that does anything.

Re: New 27hp Kohler just quiting????
Brought to Go Devil this morning. Still killing the engine when leaned back as in the prop in the water. Mech said he never saw this before. Motor runs great leaning forward in the boat and level. Pulled the unit off the boat and put on his stand. SOB didn't do it anymore. I left it with them for a couple hours they went through the carb and no issues. Another mech and I believe cocco started looking at it I was at bass pro shops. They discovered a broken or improperly terminated ground cable. Put a new end on tested everything and no issues. I am pleased they found the issue, I missed it but hell I tried everything else. Due to the shrink wrap you could not see the cable loose or moving. When tilted back it pulled out just enough to shut down, when level or tilted in the boat it pushed the loose ground into the fitting. NO CHARGE UNDER WARRANTY. **This is my third go devil product and the only issue I have every had with one, I have had great customer service and glad I bought local even though baton rouge is 80 miles. They jumped right on it while I was there in BR and said it has to be something minor we are missing. I guess this is something that comes up?? Thanks for the feedback I am pissed it is something so simple I missed but you know what they say---"it is always the last thing you check" NO SHIT

Soo what you are saying is that you went to the manufacture. Wonder why Giga always insists that GD are better than GT because of so many dealers around the country and yet so many of the GDs are brought back to the manufacture to fix.

If the motor has any kind of fuel shutoff, it wont run without a battery unless that piece has been bypassed.
