Post buying my first mud motor
This summer I am buying my first mud motor and have really looked around I've looked at beaver tail, mud buddy, and go devil and they all seem so good but I have a limited budget at around 2,000-2,500 dollars so I know I'll be buying a long shaft but I just don't know what one I use a 14ft boat and at times go through some nasty stuff so I don't think a 6HP is enough so if I could get done help I'd really appreciate the help thanks

A test drive would help you decide what suits you best...

My 1st GDLT was an 8 HP that pushed every size of boat I used it on
from small 14 footers on up --- you won't go fast but those small LTs
have a ton of power --- a lot more than you might think...

Where are you located ???

Idk about where you live but it seems like a 6hp surface drive would suck in thick mud, I could be wrong

Im running a 23 hp Dixie mud motor on a 14' wood/fiberglass boat and couldn't be happier. It weighs 141 lbs and is not too big for the boat. I would not want any less hp. Brand new motor is only $ 2900. Shipped is roughly $ 3050. Give them a look at www.dixiemudmotors.net,

You should be able to find a used dixie or copperhead in your budget. Both are surface drives and both seem to have pretty good reviews.
