i gotta go with 50 hp on a failure first. that lead up to the rod breaking. a broke rod is a broke rod. and from what calen is saying. if i understand it. he agrees. a rod that breaks close to the journel will still run. and not behave as bad as one that breaks closer to the piston pin.

I think it was more of the wording of the original poster. He said pulled the plug and the rod is broken. If he would have said he turned then engine over heard what he thinks is a broken rod. Also pulled a spark plug and it was damaged

The op is a coworker of mine. It has a stage 1. He bought it used last year with about 175 hrs on it. He may have put 10 more. Heads, cam, intake, and exhaust done by Hoyt. From what I understand is the choke cable broke when he went to start it so, he hit it with starting fluid. He said it backfired and I believe it died. When he fired it back up it sounded like shit.

I'll check with Willford in the morning. I believe the crankcase is salvageable.

That sounds like pretty decent news to me, considering the circumstances. How bad is the head? You gonna put .020 overs in it?

There's a set of heads in the classifieds for 250 if that helps. Don't know what cost is for you on those...

Good news on the cylinder! Hope y'all get it running again soon.

Nothing melted the piston, When the valve head broke off it was banging around inside that cylinder which caused the piston to crack and break all apart and all that crap was beating up against the head.

I cannot for the life of me figure out why people continue to run their motors after dropping a valve. Do you really not hear all that fuckin noise???

I had a spring break and let the valve go on my old kohler, but I had the motor shut down in a second or two and was able to salvage the head and the piston without too much damage. Both of these it appears they just kept running like nothing was wrong until it just fuckin smashed and broke everything! That one Cody posted pics of def looks like it was run for more than a couple seconds.
