Awesome site by the way...anways on to the issue

I have a Stage 1 GTR 35 and this problem happened before..but went away...im not so so lucky this time. At high RPMS the engine kills and when the primer bulb is collapsed...air in the lines? or water? I have no clue, so help me out. Also, what kind of fuel filter does the gtr-35 use? I havent changed it yet. and One last question, I have quick connects on the filter, what should I change them too? (read on here that quick connects are nitorious for causing air to get into the lines)

Open the vent on your fuel tank ???

Might be vibrating closed....
Creating the vacuum that collapses the bulb...

Or a bad bulb, clogged pickup tube, or filter - it takes some
sort of vacuum to collapse the bulb that way...

that was the first thing i checked, it was all the way open.


also i read about people not using a primer bulb at all...would it be smart to remove it?

edit: do you know what kind of fuel filter to use on a gator-tail? i reckon its time to change it anyways...also would air getting into the line somehow make it collapse?

These quick connects on your filter.What do they look like?What kind or type of filter is om there.A little plastic one or a water separator??

The only quick connects I have are on the connection to the tank.

I have a fuel filter that i bought from tech farm supply...I wanted to go back to the stock that gator-tails come with, that is why I was asking what kind of fuel filter I needed. I also have a water-fuel seperator that I am going to install this weekend.

Remove all quick connects and install 1/4'' hose barb.You will also need these for your water separator.

yes, that is what I plan on but one quick question, how do i change the fitting that is on the tank to the barb?....they sell those at walmart?


also any other solutions I can do/look for if that doesnt work?

The quick connect is threaded into the tank.Unscrew it and add a 90 or elbow if needed.USE TELFLON TAPE ON ALL THREADED CONNECTIONS.

This is Teflon Tape.You use it on the threads.

Any small plastic filter will work as long as it has the correct size barbs as your fuel hose.

I use the same one in the picture.

wal-mart, lowes, home depot will have the filters.

You will have a better time finding those brass barbs at an autoparts store (O Rielly is where I got mine).

Get rid of your bulb and quick connects and solve your fuel delivery issue before adding another variable like the fuel water separater. And to answer your question- yes your can run without a bulb, I have been running a 35 for 150 hours without a primer bulb and 20' 5/16 fuel line up to the tank in the front of the boat. I have a bulb in the boat with some extra line on it for emergency but you don't need it for normal operation.

The fuel pump on these motor is low pressure, 1-2PSI so any minor air leak will cause problems. Track it down and solve your problem before adding other variables. Just my 2 cents.

Being you ball is collapsing you definitally have a restriction. Don't think air in the line would cause that. IMO

The easiest way I find is to start from the motor and work your way back to the boats tank, ( other wise its a guessing game) I use a small clean tank of gas and a small section of hose then I disconnect everything. Using the small clean tank and hose to run the motor I start reconnecting one thing at a time until the problem is found. Process of elimination.

Sometimes these hoses will delaminate/blister on the inside and cause a restriction. seen it happen on more than one occation.

sounds like a bad bulb is it craked n e where??

If you have a fuel/water separator, it can get too much water in it and cause the bulb to collapse like you're talking about. It's happened to me before. I had to unscrew it, empty the water, gas, sludge mixture then refill it with fresh gas to make it back to the ramp. Hope this helps.

i plan on changing out the bulb, quick connects, and the fuel filter (since for some reason i have a 5 1/16 filter on a 1/4 line haha)

Gator-tail man, I'm pretty sure an air leak will not cause what you are describing. Do you or do you not have a fuel/water separator? Is that what you are referring to as the fuel filter? It looks like an oil filter in a car. If you have one, it probably is plugged up from water being in it.

This thread should be a sticky for those that don't comprehend type talkin or the search function. Also for those that can't read.
