Just bought a new GTR I will be using it for duck hunting in the bay. How do they hold up in the salt? I should be ok as long as I keep it clean after a trip right?

Corrosion-X seems to be the ticket

you'll be fine just rinse it off everytime you leave the water. I spray mine down with Tri-Flow and it looks like the day i bought it. I don't ever let mine sit more than 30 min with salt water on it, exageration, but i don't let it sit

Wash with fresh water and spray wd40 all over it this works well

I just sprayed mine with fresh water after use and never had a problem with rust.

Ok good I got worried I sall a post where guys were saying how fast it will tear em up. Guess they meant if you didn't take care of it.

Rinse thoroughly, run to warm up and dry out, treat liberally with corosion inhibitor of your choice. Pay particular attention to the electrical connections.

Salt water isn't nearly as bad on them as the new snow/ice melt our highway department started using last year! Hopefully, you don't have that to deal with!

Corrosion x and run your motor while spraying fresh water on the fly wheel. This should help keep the coils from getting salt spray sitting on them and rusting.

Do what everyone is saying about rinsing and corrosion x. Di electric grease helps a lot with electrical. Don't forget the trailer also. You can slow the effects of saltwater but it impossible to prevent. I swear plastic rusts at my camp

Go ahead & wrap your plug wires & boots with electrical tape to prevent saltwater spray that may hit the motor. This will prevent future issues with your motor grounding out while you are underway.

I run saltwater religiously and other than an occasional wd40/ corrosion-x spray it just gets rinsed with water and allowed to drip dry. You shouldn't have any issues.

Rinse it really well and wd40 that sob. It'll be alright

CorrosionX Seems to be the better product while WD40 is an affordable alternative. However, after using WD40 on my own motor over a period of time it turns into a greasy film. I guess each person has their reference and methods. Here is a quick comparison to comparable products:

I would rather a greasy film. It may look worse but underneath it is still good. About every 6 months I degrease it and then reapply

^^ True. That is what I did to mine as well. When I started researching more about the electrical elements though WD40 didn't seem to be the right answer.

You can get di electric grease in a aersol can which is very convient and easy. However, the actual grease by permatex is way better. The best di electric grease I have used is the stuff energy uses

My gallon of corrosion X came in. I had no idea this stuff was the consistency of 5W-30. Also, there are no 'directions for use' on the container or on their website.

Who has experience with this stuff?

What is the best way to apply it? (light spray or glob it on and let the excess drip off?)

Does it need to be cut with something?

yeah a gallon, LOL. Said on the Corrosion X MSDS product sheet on the website that the shelf life for this shit is forever as long as it is kept in its container with the cap on at room temperatures above 50 degrees and below 130 degrees. Buy it once and it will last for a while.
