 Running in below freezing temps
Has anyone come up with a solution for carb icing and losing power in cold temps?

Figure out a way to get heated air to the carb. I've seen some pretty ingenious stuff out of the northern folks. If it's a briggs, sometimes just flipping the air box over so it faces the exhaust is enough. I've seen guys run tubes down to the heat shield also, lots of different ways to do it. You could also try running a fuel additive like heet. People have had better luck with the mikuni's on some motors. There is lots of things you can try to help prevent it, be creative.

I'm up in MN, hunt all season and have not had issues with either my stock or mikuni setup. Only issues I've had have been when its 10 and below with either the trim icing up (not much you can do but knock the ice. off), switches and cables freezing. Only thing has helped there has been keeping them covered during trailering and at the hole. Flipping the stock cover around to face the exhaust does help. Other suggestion pending which carb you have is if its below 20 don't over prime or squeeze the throttle when not running. I've not had the issues with lack of power other than an additional 100 plus pounds of ice build up on the blind and transom when I am already running a heavy load.
I bet pending the part of the country you live in and the gas being distributed might have a bit to do with it as well. I do know come late fall they change something in the gas mix cause the truck sucks it down pretty good the first few tanks. I've used heat before but not due to icing and had no issues.

Move to Louisiana. I've made 3 hunts in flip flops. I highly suggest it.

Nope, not in the part of the state I hunt in. I believe most of that is up by International Falls, Duluth and Canadian border. Hunted In freezing rain/snow that instantly froze as soon as it hit something, -19 wind chill and blowing snow but luckily no freezing fog.
I know a lot of guys that grew up here that have some scary stories and there have been record blizards that killed 100's of duck hunters back in 50 or 60 years ago i hear aout from time to time. Although I grew up in SE TX I've not seen all things can offer up here but have been in some scary situations I swore I'd never put myself in again.
Good luck tracking down the problem you are seeing.

New gas and seafoam or HEET... is how I solved that problem with my longtail.
these motors act like the old carb cars/truck used too.

Listen to cb5331. We deal with carb icing, freezing cables and water in the fuel every fall in Alaska. Heet won't help with carb icing, but it will help with gas line freeze. Google "carb icing" and you will learn it is caused by moisture in the air not in the gas. The way I deal with freezing cables is to blow out any water with high pressure air and inject antifreeze into the cable housing. Here is a picture of my carb icing solution on the 35 Briggs. On other engines figure out how to get heat to the intake air.

I haven't encountered the problems that you guys have explained. The motor seems to run a little rough, but once it was at a normal temp did fine. It was plenty cold this morning an no issues.

A pic of my motor. It came from alaska. The dude had a fake exhaust tip welded to a hole in the heat shroud. The fake exhaust had a set screw. I'm assuming he had flex pipe connected from the intake box to the shroud.

I don't know what a wiz wheel is, but if it gets warm air to the venturi it should work. I Googled whiz wheel and wiz wheel and didn't find anything I could cut a hole with.

Had a buddly in the Pacific NW that had lots of problems w/ carb icing with the stock carb (running a lot of ice fog), he ran warm air to the air intake as posted above and it helped. FYI, when he installed his Mikuni kit he reported a lot less problems.

Ran in -12*C this morning Kohlers don't like cold but it ran without issue. The skeg was covered in frozen mud lol
