I've used one for years during gun season...

150 lb pull - with a nice 2x scope and multiple distance dots - good
safe operation from a conventional blind or tree stand - clean and
humane kills with almost no meat lost....

This year an older friend with macular degeneration in his right eye
who loves to bow hunt is borrowing mine... He has tried an aimpoint
on his compound using his left eye but lacks the accuracy he was
used to.... But seems to be able to shoot rifle or crossbow fine lefty...

I am with you Brooks - for a healthy fellow they should be limited to
use in gun season... But historically they were allowed for handicapped
use - however eye problems have not counted to my knowledge....

Maybe a looser definintion of handicap and keep 'em in gun season for
the healty folks - would be better all around for the sport....

I would love to try one in gun season. I guess Im with both Giga and Brooks on this one. I have a lot of sympathy for any person thats disabled, especially those that still try to get out and hunt as much as possible. So they are great for that situation.

Sorry if its off topic, but I know a guy that still duckhunts from a wheel chair. He is obviously limited to hunting from a boat, and has his prodrive boat set up to allow him decent mobility.

So if you have shoot a bow accurately, why do you need a crossbow? Isn't that the point of bowhunting? If you can't, knock yourself out.

100% with you Brooks. I guess it's all about the loss of license sales. Hunting license sales have been dwindling nationwide, so I guess this makes for more revenue. There used to be a time in LA & MS when you bowhunted or muzzleloaded, you pretty much had the woods to yourself except for a few other die hards.

I was a die hard bowhunter at one time. I still bowhunt a fair amount. At one time I was really against it, now it doesn't matter as much.

What I don't like is probably knowing that they are one of the most misunderstood weapons there is. They are usually pretty fast, but its all about penetration and cutting with a bolt that is usually lighter than an arrow. The crossboyer needs to have an equal or better understandin gof kinetic energy. Their effective range is still limited, but dudes go in the woods shooting way further than they have any business.

i am against it, unless you are handicapped, and they should be less strict on the handicapped pass. Like that old man with the bad eye, let him shoot one. but the reason i dont like it is there will be more Joe's in the woods using crossbows during bow season, and not to mention the poachers at night with spotlights. Guys are gonna take 75 yrd shots with crossbows and i just beleive there will be more wounded deer runnin around. I just hope the deer dont get scared during bowseason now.
