This topic has probably already been discussed so I apologize in advance. I'm fairly new to the site. However, I will be buying a new surface drive soon since I'm really getting frustrated with the performance of my current Mercury stern drive in the areas I hunt. I have visited all the major sites, but none of them are mentioning having reverse in their specs (other than PD). Which manufacturers offer reverse in their SD's and are some better than others?

I never need reverse I just go forward and can still turn around faster than they even put it in reverse

Prodrive
* Full Power Reverse w/ approx. a 10 second turnaround time. (Worst case on time estimate, could/should be quicker)

Mudbuddy
* reverse will be out late 2018

Go devil
* reverse is something that could possibly break. Along with electric start, and a clutch. Not sure why they went with electric start..

Fuk all that reverse and neutral shlt. I don't even have 'em on my truck-just stick a pole out the window and push when I need to back up, and use jack stands at stop lights.

I timed mine cause i had another with manual and wanted to see how fast i can manually do it vs automatic.....

What i got was it takes bout 5-6 seconds with auto reverse....And if you hussle, you can beat/come real close with a manual with pin puller...

Auto wins for ease of use,,,but is it worth it on a tiller??? Prolly not....Center console,,,defenatly!

I heard of you hook up your battery cables backwards it wil spin the opposite way. Therefore, spinning prop the backwards giving you reverse. Is this true?

There A LOT of stuff in life that you don't need.. You don't NEED a gas motor. A Paddle and canoe works great.

reverse = you dont have to push backwards. Of course you want reverse, but can you afford it, now that is the question

i really liked the reverse on my pd. I could turn the idle up a little and drive the boat to the decoys, in reverse to pick up and it was easy since the motor pulled the boat around instead of pushing it. It also had fpr to pull me out of places i had pulled into to hunt. The drive angle of the pd, however can be a problem with shallow hard bottoms and reverse puts the skeg deeper....im going with a gtr after having a pd, its reverse is not as conveniant to run but has enough pull for 95% of the situations you would need it for. the gtr has a better drive angle resulting in the skeg traveling over the hard bottom with minimal drag.

oh and if you buy the godevil boat motor combo, you get a push pole that comes standard in all boats. so you can kinda say they have a reverse, but no neutral, you would prolly want to turn the motor off while you are engaged in their manual reverse.
