 Re: 1448 with pods
Lose the pods & you could put any of the 23-27hp motors on it.

 Re: 1448 with pods
yes, they create "dirty" water. they cause a lot of tiny air bubbles, which cause the prop to cavitate or slip, thus decreasing performance.

 Re: 1448 with pods
crap. I guess im looking at a bigger boat then. Been looking at the Dixie I guess the largest I could fit is their 25. I mainly run 2 people but sometimes it can be 3 or 4. I spoke with ben and he said most people always come back wanting more performance. Thats where the idea came about getting the 35 hp with pods on the back.

 Re: 1448 with pods
I wouldn't put a 35 on anything smaller than 1644

 Re: 1448 with pods
You think the 25 would do it? be enough for at least 3 guys?

 Re: 1448 with pods
1st, I didn't know Dixie made a 25, thought they only had a 23 2nd, that boat with 3 grown men, gear, & deeks is gonna be a barge with any 23-25 hp motor
Had a buddy with a 27 PD on a 1442 Weldbilt that did ok at best with 3 guys & gear. Ran maybe 18-20 with 3 of us & no dog.

 Re: 1448 with pods
I've got no experience with Dixie, but I'll tell you 1st hand, stay away from the 27 MB mini. Doesn't trim down deep enough in the mud, doesn't have nearly enough torque for the load you mentioned, & the frame is weak & prone to crack at the major structure points. Saw it on mine, as well as others.
It sounds like $ is a major factor on your motor choice. For the price range you're looking at, you'd be better off buying a 35 long tail & mounting it on the 1448 with pods. You won't be satisfied with the smaller motors & boats with the load you're trying to move.

 Re: 1448 with pods
money is not a major issue we were just trying to refrain to a whole new setup but that looks like what we are going to do. Buy probably a 16ft and stick a surface drive on it.

 Re: 1448 with pods
If your going to run 3 to 4 guys bigger is better. I run 27 PD on a 1640 and have run 3 to 4 guys. You have to take your time and it's tight !!

Buy a hull from same company (gt motor-gt boat, pd motor-pd boat, etc)

 Re: 1448 with pods
Just curious, but if $$$ isn't an issue, why would you go with the cheapest built motor on the market instead of one of the better quality motors? I mean don't get me wrong, Winner's Choice will keep your feet off the rocks, but Nikes are a helluva lot better. Kinda like having enough $ for a Vette, but buying a Chevette instead.
