Post So how has your season been so far?
This by far has been the worst duck season I've ever had. We've had a total of 2 cold days where the ducks flew good and it's been in the 80's everyday this winter. I can honestly say I've only had 2 good hunts this year and the rest of the time I've shot anywhere between 2 and 4 ducks. Makes me not even want to get up in the morning for that. Don't mean to sound like if I'm venting but I'm just wondering if you guys have noticed the same thing this year? Maybe it's that the ducks didn't make it this far south this year.

On the plus side, I bought my 8 year old twin boys a Mossberg 510 20 gauge and they both shot their first duck this year so that alone made the season for me.

weve had a couple good hunts this year but nothing compared to previous years....last year was prolly my most productive year. I think the drought concentrated the birds....killed a ton of greys and teal......this year ive killed prolly 1/10th the teal and half the gadwal i killed last year.

Not necessarily a bad year, but way off par from years past. Mallard numbers are way down.

Worst year in 16 years. Had a few good hints but none of them was in my normal hunting area

Had one of the best seasons in several years up here. North Dakota in October was phenomenal. South Dakota was great in November and mid December. In Nebraska we had several "migrator days" with incredible shoots in November and December, and the biggest push of ducks showed up 10 days ago after most of our seasons were closed. Most days were not great, but there were so many awesome days that this will be a memorable season with high numbers.

With high grain prices, everyone is farming every inch of ground on the prarie and that has really kept the birds with no reason to move too far south. They don't mind the bitter cold as long as there is food and they can find open water. I've noticed that over the last 5 years, we have been keeping more ducks up North. I think that will stay that way unless there is less farming or a lot more snow cover.

Worst season i've had. Only made about 10 hunts this year. Most of my hunts are solo but I only killed bout 30 birds according to my logs. After first week of season birds were no where to be found

We have averaged over 300 ducks a year for the last 4 years down here. This year we have killed 151. This is a shitty year for us down on the coast.

My season on Lake Okeechobee has been average to above average. The birds are very spread out and on the move daily. A spot can be able to produce a 3 man limit by 7:15AM one day then be void of ducks the next. Luckily I hunt with a large group and we network well to stay on top of the birds. If you ever see a group of 4 to 10 mud rigs in a huge huddle on the lake, it is probably us cooking a marsh breakfast. I have shot a nice variety: wood ducks, gwt, bwt, pintail, modu, ringers, and ruddies. I've seen fulvous tree ducks, BBWD, egyptian geese (pair), gadwall, shoveler, redheads, cans, widgeon, and mergansers just not within shooting range. Right now we are just chasing around the same ringers that were here for the opener. I was hoping for a hard front during the full moon to give us a push of birds for the closer... maybe it will be good for the kids on youth weekend.

ibfishin, we've probably have crossed paths at some point...can't say my group has bagged your variety but the ringers have been consistently steady all year...and we're happy for that.

I hunted south of Cochrans Pass once this year. I had seen a ton of teal in a big pond one afternoon, but they failed to show back up in any numbers the next morning. That is usually the case for teal on Lake O... There one day and gone the next. Lot of birds on the south end, just haven't really needed to move to that end of the lake. Between Indian Prarie and Dyess Ditch (near the pump station) was on fire for @3 weeks, but it got blown out rather quickly.

not really for us...we've been pulling steady from that specific area since the split ..things are beginning to shift though...pressure has been pretty high the last couple of weeks

On Monday I ran my flatsboat into the big eelgrass/hydrilla bay that is fairly close to the pump station. We caught a few bass, but nothing has really moved in to spawn in that area yet. We saw a ton of coots and a few ringers. There were a few more further to the north. When we were hunting that area a bunch, we noticed the bulk of the birds kept moving further south each day. If that is the area you hunt I'm sure our paths have crossed. Been seeing guys in float rigs on the hydrilla flats just outside dyess ditch. I got my float rigs out, but haven't had to resort to them this season. They are very effective, but such a bulky pain in the ass to deal with.

Central IN. Worst year ever. Took a limit on one hunt. Been hunting 25 years and I've never seen it this bad. Average about 200 ducks per year in the boat, this year we didn't break 30.
