Post New PD 18X54 SBX w/ PD 36 FPR (First Time Out)
Well I picked up the new boat on Saturday morning, and after an adapter puchase for the trailer lights, and a little gas I was on my way to the ramp. Put in at the Gou Hole ramp (Hugo Point Park) just me, the wife and a full cooler. I was immediately impressed with the FPR, and after a few seconds, and a deep breath we were off. The boat planed out relatively quickly, and it took me a few minutes to find the sweet spot on the trim. We ran down Long Island Bayou out to Jacks found the channel on the way out...not so much on the way in but I didn't like that black paint on the prop anyway! It's been a while, 3 years at least since I've been out there I'll admit I need a little nav practice. We made a quick circle in the pocket, and then headed back up the bayou, and noth of I-10 to Lost Lake. We did not do too much in the mud just a few quick laps, and back down to the ramp. Total time 1.5-2 hours. No GPS this trip but I figure about 25 MPH WOT. I'll keep posting as I get it dialed in.

What I liked:
FPR
Boat Handling
Stability
Hole Shot

What I didn't like:
When trimmed up correctly on step the tiller handle is to low to stand and drive
I guess I'm just accustomed to standing and operating a tiller, I like to see a little farther out than sitting allows.
Other than that no cons so far.

Any suggestions on operation, and the tiller handle solution are appreciated.

Congrats.

Let me know if you ever need someone to run around with out there. That is where i take my boat 75% of the time (not for mud but cruising, fishing and hunting).

One warning about trinity is the sand, if you plan to "play" a ton out there you will run though props unless you go up the trinity and find "real mud".

Also, come to the setx mud run in Feb @ Port Neches park.

You can shim the tiller handle. Just put some big ass washers in between the rubber stops and the handle. Make sure u don't jack up the linkage for the carb.
I would think you may be trimming a little high though. All boats are a little different, but I've run pd boats and non pd boats and never really ran one I wasn't comfortable standing up to drive. How tall are you?

Half out is a just a guideline. It isn't really an exact science. Did you seem to have a good amount tiller torque or kind of loose steering where you were running it? Sound like an airplane? If either one of those try to trim down a touch.
Best way to get a feel for where it needs to be is to carry a gps. Play with it until you get your best speeds. Just trim up till your speed starts to drop then trim down a touch. If there is a certain area of the trim where speed doesn't really change, I would run it with the prop more in the water than out. It will be more comfortable and easier to steer. Hope that makes sense.

Is the boat/motor a tall transom set up?

Once you get some tiller time, you'll be able to dial it in pretty close just by feel. Got to know what your looking for though and the gps will help with that.

Congrats on the new rig! You're going to enjoy it!

That is a slick boat, did you get it from the Polaris store on 10? I think I looked at it at the show

The floor is about 8" higher with all the foam than a normal boat, it is alot tougher to stand and drive.
