Y are guys not using 3 inch flat bar to brace longitudinally?

I know some guys are using it bt most boats I'm seeing are using hat section and tubing.

What thickness flat bar are we talking?

I beliv mine is 1/4x 3

1/8" flat bar for bracing?

I have seen in crawfish skiffs, hat section was welded across from side to side. To prevent waves in the floor, .25" x 2" flat bar is welded longitude just as we weld our ribs. then the hat section is welded on top of the flat bar across. All it did was prevent the heat from the hat section being welded across to wave the floor. thats it.

Looking at the materials list/design. I have 5 6061 t6 .375 flatbar bow to stern. I have 6 6063-t6 2 in sq tube cross members. W fully welded floor semi sealed in rear. No weld layed against bottom to true seal the bottom

whole way. Lay them out just as you would do your 2" x 2" or what ever your ribs would be. stagger the welds down both sides just as normal ribs. .25" up and 2" flat. So basically it give you the same foot print as a 2" x 2". But they tak the hat section, and weld it from side to side. My only reason for thinking that they would do this is if they didn't have a roller or bender. With a roller, you can roll the 2 x 2 to conform to the rake. If you didn't have a roller or bender, the flat bat would conform to the rake then the hat can be placed every 16" or however far apart from the back to the front without the worry of bending or rolling it, just weld down to the flat bar and to the sides.

thats it. See how the real bracing goes cross ways. Then they confirmed my theory. They started it at the rake. Which means they didn't have a bender either. But thats it, except the entire length of the ribs.

Mine is flat bar front to bak w square tube crossbeams w .100 full welded floor. Very clean very stable.

My guy def has benders.

My buddy just got a brand new gt boat and its got flat bar on the rake. I'd like to build my next one like that, be alot easier. But is it strong enough?

you get the strength from the cross braces on top the flat bar. The flat bar by itself is really no strength at all.

I wouldn't want flat bar bracing on 1/8" bottom. Really wouldnt want it on 3/16 but i like stronger front bracing Incase u KO a stump or knee u would have a better chance of it not denting. But I'm also from the stump capital of Texas.
