Post Modded B&S Carb From Gecker
Checked out Gecker's website and I noticed they sell a modified B&S carb that they claim adds +/- 4hp. I'm all about some extra hp but I'm not wanting to get into the engine or go with the Mikuni carb but an upgraded B&S carb might be worth getting. I'm assuming it's an exact replacement just beefed up a bit and that all my current parts would work. I'm not wanting to change alot of stuff ie air filter etc.

Anybody familiar with this setup? Do you think the $ is worth the few extra hp or do you even think I'll notice the increase? Do you think it would be any more or less finicky or reliable than the stock one I have now?

Thanks.

We have a couple of options in this package that will increase HP from 4-6.5 total. You can go with the big bore stock carb or you can go with a infinite radius big bore stock carb. The increase is for sure noticable. We have done literally a thousand or more of these over the years. The net overall bore size is a lot larger than the Mikuni and it is stock. The carbs are very easy to tune. This package is a bolt on deal tailored toward your engine combination. You just bolt it on when you get it.

We will be offering a swap program very soon. Basically, send us yours and we replace it with a core here. Similar to getting an alternator for your car.

We also have in stock the air filters and air filter adapters if you are wanting to replace your stock air box.

Thanks

if all I got was better low-end throttle response, I'd be happy! seems like there's always that little dead spot when you first get into it. possible?

yeah was thinking about the same thing i just want some better throttle response more like a boat less like a lawnmower. Im gonna wait until they do that core replacement deal. that plus some new pipes, and maybe head work in the future waiting for the warranty to dissapear.

We have update the site with some pictures of the various intake system components that we make. Here is the link: http://www.mudboatmotor.com/html/performance_parts.html
Make sure to hit the refresh button if it does not look new. We will be updating the site very frequently with products pictures and new products.

With the stock carb, the potential for improvement is exxtremely great compared to anything else. If you look at the attached picture, you will see what we are saying. They are easy to tune and the flow great air. The net bore size is larger than a 42 Mikuni by a lot.

Crews, your low end response is going to be a lot better. It gets a ton better all the way through to the top side.

Marshbyrd, the replacement deal is on. We will post info on the site and I guess here before the weekend is out. We have carbs in stock and ready to go.

Owen, we will offer a warranty on it. We cannot post pictures yet for a couple of reasons. AS SOON as we can we will for sure.

Thanks

I have the same questions as Owen. If its a short turnaround I would like to send mine to you next week. If its a long turnaround, its gonna have to wait until Feb.

I'm gonna go with the new carb for sure and was thinking about the air filter set up but it looks like the filter would be exposed and I don't like that. Am I seeing the pictures of the air filter set up wrong or would the filter just mount to the adaptor via hose clamp and stick up without any type of cover on it. If so I'll stick with my stock set up and run just the new carb.

What kind of improvement might I see with just the carb and nothing else?

31's? No problem. We can perform basically the same operations on any style of carb or engine for that matter.

Thanks

The filters we are discussing are K & N or S & B Filters for stock carb applications. These are not cone style filters. Here is the dimensions: 8 3/4 x 4 3/4 x 4.
It does not stick out to bad and is secured to our air filter adapter. It works very well. It provides very little restiction and just as much protection from debris.

Thanks

You're opening up the bore on the carb.

Are you also opening intake, or blending it?

Whats on the back of my mind is that there saying a bored and blended stock carb has more flow than a 42mm mukuni. which maybe it does, but with the restriction in air flow by the butterfly and choke valves in the stock setup. I just don't see it being as or more efficient than the smooth bore and slide valve of the Mukuni, especially at WOT. just mho.

But with that being said, If I had to do it all over again I would definitally give the modded stock carb a try before paying what I paid for the Mukuni!

Good price fosho!

So what I read is that a modded carb is free if your core passes?

We ship you a fully modified carb and charge you a $100 core charge. Once you get your new carb, ship us your old one. Once your carb gets here and passes core inspection, we refund your card the core charge. This means little down time and great performance right at your finger tips!

No, it's 250 plus a 100.00 core charge. 100.00 credited back to you when they get your carb.

I know that my Mukuni didn't like a stock exhaust at all, the excess back pressure from the small diameter/restrictive muffler made the carb back flow. It also makes it difficult to get a smooth and responsive carburetion through the entire rpm range. :?

The stock exhaust can handle it. We have done several that way. You can also modify the stock exhaust somewhat making it better.

On the intakes, we do a lot of blend work and roll it all in. You are limited but still can make it better.

Thanks
