Post Help with zinc caller.
Bought a green acrylic Zinc power hen single reed caller.
I'm not sure what I expected but I'm a but disappointed in it. They over blow easily. Any tricks for tuning them up put experts?

You could order thicker reed material and trace the reed that's in there, that will make it harder to blow.

Or just call the shop and tell them how you want it tuned. I think it's free aside from postage.

You could throw it on the ground and buy something other than a Zink, should get you fixed right up ;)

I'm not a fan, never blew one or heard someone blow one in person that impressed me.

I never heard any triple reed yet, I bet they're a pain in the dick to tune though! You said they have good range?

I been trying to find a mach 3 for a while..single reeds will throw you on a loop. I just got a jj lares timber and its taken me a couple weeks to adjust but boy is it sweet. Best thing to do if your bored one day is order about 50 reeds and just play around with them. cut them diff lengths..dog ear some.etc..it can be frustrating but you can get it how you want.

Couple questions.
What setup are you wanting to use it for? Timber? Open water? Competition?
Did you buy it new ?
Acrylic or poly?
What calls are you used to using?

if you switched from double reed set up to a single it is a big diffrence. Last year i got a RNT diablo single reed job. It took a lil a while to change up my calling but after i changed it up a lil bit i love how it sounds its a hell of a call

Buy any of the RNT single reeds, learn the call and get rid of all those double and triple reed calls. Double and triple reeds are just a band aid for lack of calling skills. Once you learn a single reed, it will have more range than a double or triple will ever have.

Not saying you can't kill birds with double or triple reed calls. But you can also kill them without calling. Single reed is the only way to go.

I will still pick up my double reed in certin situations before i pick up my single reed call. I find both styles of calls are good

Well it got the better of me and I fiddled the reed and added a second one.
I'm happier now and will take it out on opening weekend
