 300 or 500 watt halogen?
ive searched on here and couldnt find a answer but i have like 6 500 watt halogens to mount on my boat to gig and bowfish. But ive heard that 300 watt penetrate the water better than 500s I was wondering which is better. Thanks.

Use what you have, you'll be fine. 6 500's are better than 6 300...logic

I use 11 250 watt. Id run all 500 watts but I went with a smaller generator.

Plug in a 500 and a 300, shine them one at a time in the dudes face and then ask him again... LOL

Re: 300 or 500 watt halogen?
That is light per light, On another note and not to had confusion, maybe they were saying you'll get more out of 300's on the same genny. Example - 3000 watts will be (6) 500 watt lights, where you can run (10) 300 watt lights providing more overall coverage and would be better IMO. I personally run 300's for this matter.

Re: 300 or 500 watt halogen?
Yeah I gotcha, ima keep two 500s and change 6 of em to 300 watt bulbs so that I'll have 8 lights on the deck. That should be plenty of light.

Re: 300 or 500 watt halogen?
Put 500 watts next 300 on a typical muddy night on the river an youll have an ass of glare from the 500 an them demmer light like the 300 will penetrate the water better. I mean yeah in a sandy\ shell bottom lake or something like that the 500 might be brighter but for round here we have alot of muddy water cant always take water people say outta state.. just my input.

Re: 300 or 500 watt halogen?
There are many different kinds of water, the water you have must have lots of floating silt that reflects the light back. Like shining high beams into fog. Different colors will work differently also, we have relativley clean water when there hasn't been lots of rain. Whether it be "white" water or "brown" water, it doesn't have the stuff floating in it so the more light the better.

Re: 300 or 500 watt halogen?
i run 225 watt ultras almost put out as many lumens as a 500 watt halogen but draw less wattage than the 300's do.

Re: 300 or 500 watt halogen?
@ will Yes i can agree with that too, but if you have alot of light on a muddy nasty night which seems its more like that hear than anything else then youll have alot of glare but hell in Florida i know yalls water is pretty clear from all the sand an shells so in your case it would deffinently be better to have more light than Not. But yeah i wasnt trying to bash you or anything but just things varey from state to state.. hell county to county! Especially with these damn fish!

Re: 300 or 500 watt halogen?
I don't think any light is worth a fuck in muddy silty water!!
