 Water test 1854 Uncle J 3/16 w/35 gtr
GTR is awesome Vanguard sucks as always. Turning off at idle etc. Hard to start. Lawn mower engines just suck from day one. May remove carb and send it to EC carburetor. Don't want to waste gator tails time on Vanguard BS.
Love the GTR. Very well designed mud motor. Smooth and very little vibration. Very happy with this motor.
Any significant gains on exhaust ? any recommendations ?

 Re: Water test 1854 Uncle J 3/16 w/35 gtr
No significant gains from exhaust. They pretty much all break, so pick your poison.
See if you can send your carb to bayouboy. Or dig through some of DB8's old posts and see if you can find the tricks he was doing with them. Spacer, button head screws on the choke butterfly, grinding the square edge on the butterfly, adjusting the idle mix, etc... I know there is a post on the BPS site, may be a lil easier to find cause there ain't that many threads on that site.

Bump RPM to 4300 OOW. Remove that green pre-filter on air filter. Adjust idle to 1100-1200 OOW.
Just that should help a little.

 Re: Water test 1854 Uncle J 3/16 w/35 gtr
Motor maxed out 3600 rpm out of the water. Great idea about gov tab. Going to up the idle also. It's at 650 rpm. Not sure if that's normal for the stock 35 VG.

What year is your motor? And 650 sounds low. I don't have a gt but by pd likes to idle at 900-1100 rpm

There is a governor adjust screw in between the exhaust and motor on the driver side that you can screw in to raise your OoW rpms

I would set OOW rpms before you set idle. What tab are you guys bending? You shouldn't need to bend any tabs

 Re: Water test 1854 Uncle J 3/16 w/35 gtr
If it is a cdi it can idle at 800
Def need to get to. 4300 out of the water.
First thing to check is make sure the slide is getting pulled all the way open by the throttle cable. Once verified adjust the screw as stated.
If u still need more.. Which u shouldn't.. There r other options

Sounds like once you get the motor to turn up right this will be a good running 18x54 for a 3/16ths bottom

The motor is a marine Vanguard Briggs & Stratton 613477-2194-G1 Engine.
Not sure if it's CDI not sure of the coils. Any ideas ?

 Re: Water test 1854 Uncle J 3/16 w/35 gtr
Marine = CDI
So yes it is a CDI. These motors are very smooth and can idle pretty low compared to the non CDI motors.
U should be able to turn it up to 4300 out of the water w no issues. Let us know how u make out.
I would not bend anything until u try what was already suggested.

 Re: Water test 1854 Uncle J 3/16 w/35 gtr
As previously suggested, u need to turn the golden screw with the spring between the back of the block and ur muffler clockwise until ur bouncing off the rev limiter while on the trailor. This is ur governor adjustment. Don't bend any tabs
After u do that, there Is a little screw on the side of ur carb that adjust the idle. Turn ur idle up a bit and it won't die on u like its doing. U can drill a 3/8" hole n ur plastic to access the screw easy
Also as stated take the filter wrap off of ur air filter. Ur not going to need that.
Do a search on db8 "tuning stock carb" and it will show u how to adjust the carb to get rid of the bog. Don't be scared as it only affects the motor at idle. So if its idling a Lil rich, soon as u start running ur running off of the jet.
Do all of this, then report back with new numbers

Fast enough, Rudy! Enjoy and don't fret about the paint or getting these goons' approval and hope you got a winch! Get you some hydroturf for the floor for sure.
