i am about to get a 18x48 or a 19x48 custom hull built. I am new to mud motors, i thought i had my mind made up on a 35 gator tail bc i like the instant reverse it has like an outboard and the life time warranty on the belt, but i started looking into the pro drives again with the hydraulic reverse.

i would like some pros and cons of each please
i hear gator tails are faster and weigh a little more. big decision to make since both are around $7000 brand new. so any input would be great thanks

alright, thnx guys. yea im not even considering mud buddy or beaver tail or any of the other ones but i think they are all junk and mud buddies are way too expensive

Definitely go test drive both & make your own decision. Pretty clear what my choice is, but might not be the same for you. Like ddm said, I'm almost certain the GT is lighter than the PD. Both great choices.

what does a gatortail weigh?

I think a prodrive is around 280

I think the 25 is about 240-245 & the 35 is 265, but I could be mistaken. Either way tho, what's 15-20 lbs gonna matter?

prodrive is 335lbs for the 36

the 27 is 260lbs

Kohler is 95 lbs, briggs is 125.
Maybe they weighed the 36 with all the add ons and the 27 with manual trim and no reverse? Two rams, a pump, and the reverse plate could weigh 45 lbs I guess.. I dunno..

lol ok i'll give you that one, Pro-drive has alot of SS parts on it also, adds to weight. Both good motors for what you want to do, you'll adapt to either one and eventually perfect it overtime.

This is me running a PD in reverse!! And its not even in reverse ! I put the prop on backward just to prove to the naysayers that this badass PD motor could pull me like an Airboat just by trimming the motor up!
