 Gatortails to Last Island/Timbalier
Any of you guys ever take your boats out to the islands to speck fish? I was just curious. Went fishing yesterday at Timbalier and it was so calm that you could have taken a Gatortail out there.

Just my opinion....you're asking for trouble. Just 2-3 foot swells and you're going down.

 Re: Gatortails to Last Island/Timbalier
Definitely do not want to do that. I've hit the coast in a 22' Pathfinder and turned around with gulf rolling 2-3'. Hit it in a 24' Champion in worse conditions and made it fine, but wished I had turned around. With all that being said... I have been out to Last Island in a jetski, but the water was glass. Talk about get there quick...

 Re: Gatortails to Last Island/Timbalier
Has everyone turned into pussies. If its calm go. Use common sense.
I grew up in Grand Isle and my stomping ground was from Vince to Grand Caillou Bayou as a kid.
We used to flounder Timbalier and Last Islands all the time.
Fish offshore at the Sulfer Platforms on calm days.
Ran all of that in a 15' flatboat with a 25 hp Evinrude. Couple cans of spare gas and a tent and we were gone for days.
If its calm go. If its rough stay home or in protected waters.

 Re: Gatortails to Last Island/Timbalier
Yesterday was a day you could have gone out there. It was very smooth.
Dguidry we understand the risk. I was just wondering if anyone ever went. If the weather gets bad, beach your boat and wait it out.
I know people who go out there in 18ft boats all the time.

 Re: Gatortails to Last Island/Timbalier
Got stuck out there one night gigging flounder. Squal kicked up and spent the night under the camp waiting for calm. Definitely big boat only for me. Ain't got the brass to take my rig out there.

 Re: Gatortails to Last Island/Timbalier
I've been there in a dual PRODRIVE rig... Lets just say we didn't stay too long. The run wasn't bad because we ran bayou salle and we were protected 3/4 the way. But I probably wouldn't do it again.

 Re: Gatortails to Last Island/Timbalier
I flounder that area kinda regularly.....its a lot farther coming from leevile.lol The boat will take a lot more rough than u think. Once u get on course, Shift the weight to the leeward side.to raise the windward side. If the boat won't take it,then u shoulda kept the uncle j.lol.

 Re: Gatortails to Last Island/Timbalier
Going out if GI and cocadrie is two different stories. When you leave cocadrie and if you run out of tris son pique't(spelling**) you still have about 8 miles of in protected water. Ask Cootslayer about the storm we went through. Then ask him how he would have felt if we were in a mud boat.
