 Camp septic systems HELP
My old camp lease is up for renewal and was told that it needed a sewage approval from the department of health. I always knew it had a septic tank (drum system) and it never gave us a problem.Plus I live less than a mile through the woods so we never even used the shitter in there.Just a place we hang out fish, drink beer ect... Tank was in place when we baught the place 15 yrs ago. We only go down there a couple times a month.. Any way ...health department tells me I have to have a certified septic guy to come and pump it out to verify how much he pumps out and the capacity of the tank. I wasn't really sure where it was at to get it pumped.. After probing around I find the thing. Its a damn steel drum all rusted out. So........ I am guessing I cant just redo the system with plastic drums and a leech field with out all kinds of permits and isnspections right? $$$$$$$$$ I came across this on line and figured some off you fellas down there are using them. http://www.houseboatoutlet.com/images/CampUnit2.pdfDo I have to have a permit to put this thing in? Sorry for the long post but I am at wits end with this health department up here.

 Re: Camp septic systems HELP
The owner of the compnay here has 2 of them on his houseboat. Everyone that has to get them around here is buying those. You can run the grey and black water to it if you like. But it will fill quicker. Grey can be just drained, I think.
I think those systems run $1500 or so.

 Re: Camp septic systems HELP
Thanks cmiller. I ll have to run the grey water in there as far as what they tell me. As far as the discharge on the unit, can it be just drained out on the ground or water?

 Re: Camp septic systems HELP
From what I understand about it is that the final chamber is a chlorination chamber that's treats the water enough to be dumped...???

 Re: Camp septic systems HELP
Here is some pics of the houseboat setup I'm talking about. They even had a tank made to catch the cleaned water. Then that is pumped or dumped.

 Re: Camp septic systems HELP
So they aren't running the grey water in there in "that" setup but treating it in that other tank with the septic discharge.....I replaced my old rusty tank yesterday and piped all my grey water in to the sewage line.. If its not approved I will be buying one of those units..
Is that the owners boat you were speaking of?
Thanks for the pics.

 Re: Camp septic systems HELP
As of right now in Louisiana Gray Water is not required to be treated according to NPDES / VGP or Clean Water Act Regulation. It can be discharged straight into the water.
But local parish rules may apply.
