Post Thinking About getting a ProDrive, Opinions Please!
Ran a 1748 Uncle J, With a 35 GTR last year..loved it until I was running large loads..Im tired of fighting the tiller thrust and worrying about seating placement of my group. I know I could go with a bigger Boat set up and not have this problem..but still I guess im a wimp lol I want to ride in boat like im driving an outboard.. Ive never driven a prodrive and do not have time to go to any test runs.. Needless to say, what boat package would yall recommend me getting if I run 4 people + a dog, and a heavy load of gear..I hunt the Mississippi river and hunt over many decoys..and would still like to maintain SPEED..so please take all that into consideration.. I can't afford duals. But I also know you cant ball on a budget lol..Im open to modded motors etc. Thanks for your 2 cents!

Post up what area you're in and maybe someone will offer you a ride in a pd. Your best bet is to run one. I love mine and it suits my running just fine. I used to have a mb (similar design) and i like the way the pd handles much better than the motors with a longer handle and longer drive. The gtr squad will be along shortly to give their thoughts. I can't see where you could go wrong with either brand. I see it as personal preference. The gtr might be a liitle faster but it sounds like your gonna need to mid what you get anyway. As far as for hunting 3-4 more mph doesn't mean much to me. Just have to I get up a lil quicker and i leave out early anyway. Good luck.

I have a 17X54 x series with a 36HP PD with a stage one my hunting load is usually 3-4 people an gear. I get where i need to go at a pretty good speed with that load. you might want to go with a bigger boat since it sounds like you bring out a lot of deeks and you woulf probably be really happy with a stage 2 if you want to maintain some speed with the big hunting load you have

Get it and put another 2 grand into motor.......all boats need to be balanced.....an unbalanced load sucks just as bad in a pd as it does in a gtr.....and carrying 4 adults a dog and decoys.....get a dual rig...

The wider bigger boat will help, but you still have to place loads properly. Cant get away from it...

If you are not after full power reverse stick with what youve got and mod your motor up alittle bit Ive crossed the Mississippi to hunt Baptiste in boats with all of the big 3 MM brands and the tiller torque is pretty much the same in each especially loaded down the driver is always moving people and gear around

You mentioned in OP that you have never driven a PD and don't have time too.....I wouldn't make the switch just from hearing other people's opinions. Wait till u have time to test drive one and make your own determination on if it will work for you or not. If u want to change bad enough, you will make time to test one out.

And if you always loaded, the new gen gear box PD will be what you want.

I can put four guys, genny, bowfishing deck, cooler, all kinds of BS (1100 pounds +) in my 1754 PD, and run on plane with my thumb and index finger on the tiller. Now if you're in any kind of changing current, of course you're going to feel that, but that's not true "tiller" torque generated from the prop. Eliminate the true tiller torque and the rest you'll just have to deal with, that's goes for any mm...it's all in the set up and balance.

I'd consider duals on the SBX series PD boat with 24" sides
