Any members on here do HVAC work?
Looking to get some prices to have the whole system in my house replaced. Just wondering if any of you guys in the area do the work. If I gotta pay someone, I'd rather help out a MMT member.
I'm just outside of the New Orleans area.

Just seen two guys at work change to 410a it cost them between that 8-15 k depending on name you go with but they have both seen lower energy bills due to efficient units

Re: Any members on here do HVAC work?
I would not think that much. Depending on how many units you need. I would expect you to be able to reuse duct work.

Re: Any members on here do HVAC work?
House is 1600 sqft. Inside unit was put in in '88. Outside unit was put in in '07. Last weekend, drain backed up and drained into the emergency pan. The pan is rusted thru and added a nice shower in my kitchen when the pan leaked out. Figured I'd get some prices on replacing it before it goes out.

Re: Any members on here do HVAC work?
I quoted 2 X 3 Ton Lennox Dual Stage Compressor Variable speed fan 17 Seer units with all new ducts and it was 16K.
I opted to run my down Colmans another year.
I feel I screwed up and should have done it while I had the cash in hand.

Re: Any members on here do HVAC work?
I just got prices on this. 1800 sq ft house built in 2000. Current unit is a 3 ton Rheem 10 seer. I had one of the big guys that run 10-15 service trucks, come in and quote $6,995 for a 3 ton 17 seer Amana unit. Gave me the spill about spending more now, saving more later blah blah blah and how our current system is not right and needs bigger ducts, larger grate etc etc.
I called the local 1 truck guy and he quoted a 3 ton 10 seer Amana at $3500.I know there is a price diff from a 10 to a 17 seer unit, but feel we were getting the up sale, salesman pitch.
One of my buddies who is a HVAC contractor in another state said he charges $4500 for a 3.5 ton unit installed. Did not mention the seer rating.
We have a freon leak and decided to just charge the system to see how long it would last. Big boys wanted $450. Local guy did I it for $125.

Re: Any members on here do HVAC work?
I thought they had upper the regulations on Seer ratings and they couldnt sell anything under 12 if I am not mistaken.
Can anyone verify this.

Re: Any members on here do HVAC work?
As of January 2006, all residential air conditioners sold in the United States must have a SEER of at least 13. ENERGY STAR qualified Central Air Conditioners must have a SEER of at least 14.

Re: Any members on here do HVAC work?
I am somewhat confused on above when he said that the 1 truck guy quoted him a 10 Seer.
Either a mistake or 1 Truck man selling shit he is not supposed to.

Re: Any members on here do HVAC work?
There can be so many different variables. I think average difference in see ratings is about 400 to 500 per seer. That could account for a couple grand.
Also duct work. Drip pans. Safety switch on drip pan.
I would suggest a complete written estimate from whoever you call so you can compare them.

Re: Any members on here do HVAC work?
2 estimates so far. Jimmy just left and will have me 2 more estimates tonight. Still have another company coming to give me an estimate later on today. I figure 3 companies will give me a good idea of what I'm looking at.
