 Will this have a negative effect on my dog? Will it have a negative effect on a dog if I take him with me hunting but do not allow him to retrieve?
Reason for asking as1) water will not be cold enough to slow down gators until later in the seaso. And 2) it is a young dog only about 3/4 months by the time season gets going.

Re: Will this have a negative effect on my dog? no its a good way to keep him from breaking every shot but make sure he is gun trained. when you get back let him fetch the birds act like you are hunting worked for me.

No bs it is a bad thing at that age bc u want him to retrieve every thing it will only hurt him by not letting him pick the birds up I wouldn't even bring him in a boat unless ur going on a Sunday ride and have the patience to stop and keep correcting him for sit

Re: Will this have a negative effect on my dog? The only time that I would even do something like that is with a dog that is older and knows the difference and can be corrected but even with them u still have to let them get one every once in awhile

Re: Will this have a negative effect on my dog? I wouldn't want to take a young one hunting and deny his natural instincts. Not for his first experiences.
Also whatever you decide as stated above make sure he is gun broke before you do anything!
