MB HD 5500 OR HD 7000?
Looking for info on both motors. Which one should I go with? Pros and cons on both would be nice. This site may not be the best place to ask because many folks on here don't like mud buddy's. I don't have any bad things to say about the other mud motor company's, just have a bunch of people around here who have mud buddy's and they love them.
Motors going to be put on a 1751V4. Mainly run with 300 lbs of total weight during season. Thats one guy, a british lab and the rest is normal gear.

Between the two 55 MAG hands down. You.don't want anything to.do with those dual carbs.

Re: MB HD 5500 OR HD 7000?
Thats what I have been reading about from previous posts. Question is what kind of difference is there between them that doesn't make them that far off each other besides the single carb and twin carb

There the same motor one has a single carb the other has twin carbs.......they are geared slightly different.I see your from WI Mark @ Muddywaters outdoors in Lacrosse has a 7000 that walks all over 5500 mags.He would be the guy i would talk to about a rig in WI only shop that knows shit

Re: MB HD 5500 OR HD 7000?
7000 = smaller Carb jets, 2-3 MPH top end, hole shot weak compared to 5500, load carrying weak to 5500, double carbs double the problems
5500 = one large jet, less top end than 7000, load carrying better, hole shot better, better low end

Re: MB HD 5500 OR HD 7000?
Had the 5500 mag on a 1751VF4 that I just got rid of and it would run 30-31 with just me...two people and a dog and hunting gear 28-29

Re: MB HD 5500 OR HD 7000?
I couldn't afford my notes anymore...I never had any problems out of it...but with that said my next boat and motor will come from gator tail simply because I want a true mud hull, a motor with reverse, and I've read nothing but good reviews on them.

Re: MB HD 5500 OR HD 7000?
I don't need a full blown mud hull simply because I have yet to run into any situation that one is needed on the river where I live. Since you had there viper hull how did it perform? I've been wondering because they have that and the shallow water hull. I haven't searched on here if anyone has talked about this or not so maybe I should post a new thread about it.

Don't get either and stick with an outboard. You'll thank me later.

Re: MB HD 5500 OR HD 7000?
I guess I misread what you said the first time for some reason I got the impression you didint quite need a mudmotor.. Looking back you said you didint need a true mud hull. Have you checked out prodrive or gator tail?

Re: MB HD 5500 OR HD 7000?
The viper hull turns better from what I understand but is technically made for an outboard...the only thing I didn't like about my excel was its load carrying ability and the layout but since you said it's usually just you and the dog carrying a big load isn't a big deal for you

Re: MB HD 5500 OR HD 7000?
7000 will be a little faster on the top end, 5500 mag will have a little more low end. it sounds like you're not gonna be carrying too much of a load so i wouldnt be too worried about the low end. the 7000 will have more than enough for that rig. as far as the "twin carb problem" ive hunted out of a 7000 for the past 4 years and have never noticed any problem with the carbs. you might occasionally have to adjust them but its really not that big of a deal. having said that, if you simply dont want to mess with that, then get the 5500 mag. you will be happy with either. i would also suggest getting the 32" drive.

Re: MB HD 5500 OR HD 7000?
X2^^^^^^^^^^on the 32" drive with the viper hull or any mod V boat for that matter. Any reason you are set on a Excel boat??? There are a lot better boats out there then those things...for same $$$$.

Why do you want the Viper hull paired with a mudmotor? Seems like a waste to me
Where are u located in WI?
