Re: Modded B&S Carb From Gecker
You need that turbulence in order to pull the fuel. The issue could have been that these carbs were bored out to much and the airflow wasn't enough to pull fuel.

Re: Modded B&S Carb From Gecker
Well after folliwing this thread i actually went and did extensive research of how the Carburetor actually works. Its a simple process once you understand it. Now here is my question. WHen they bore out this Carb what are they boring and where? How is the Venturi affected? You have to have the venturi to Accelerate the air flow and decrease pressure, Which pulls fuel from the jets and into the carb on its way to the throttle plates and intake. Please explain how these carbs are bored. Im gonna go back and look at Westends pic to see if I can see it.

Re: Modded B&S Carb From Gecker
Basically its taken off the Choke end of the carb to the venturi? You cannot bore any more on the throttle end unless you have larger throttle plates. Im just trying to see what type of work is actually being done.

Db8
that is correct, I just didn't say venturies.
I wanna see more pics of the carb but with light shining inside of it with the choke plate open.

Re: Modded B&S Carb From Gecker
So from looking at the pics and finally understangin the function of a carb. The are opening up is the peice of carb before the Venturi. That would have more volume of air incoming and the venturi SPEEDS up the flow and the throttle being the same bore size after the venturi keeps the speed up and channeled quicker to the intake manifold. In theory it works by cramming as much air into the venturi as possibly to gain the maximum output of the stock throttle bore size.
You guys are putting smaller screws to have the most amount of airflow into the intake I assume? IMHO with this IF it works properly, I would do what DB8 did with the intake to keep the air flow channeled into the combustion chamber as freely as possible.
Keep us updated I am intrigued by this compared to the Mikuni!

I'm on the water now... The technology age... I love it!
Okay I put the carb on y'all ready?
Went from my originally stated numbers... 28 mph.
I'm now running 29.1 mph same load.

Man you went through a lot of posts and carb to get 1.1 mph faster. Sure hope the bottom end torque is better.

Re: Modded B&S Carb From Gecker
Yes, you will have to weigh whether or not its worth it to you to spend the 250.00 to POSSIBLY get 2 mph, and if you want to play carb tag along the way. From the couple of reviews out of the 100+ carbs we read of 1-2 mph gains. I know of 3 folks that didn't get any gains along with the others mentioned by credible members here. Per Sheldon: it will be different on every motor as every motor is different, meaning no guarentees if you will get anything. So it can be safely stated that you can expect from 0-2 mph with the carb and maybe need the exhaust along with it to get that 2 mph. If he will give you a refund if its a wash then maybe its worth a try. Hang on to your stocker until you have decided. I can endorse the Gecker Filter/adapter as a good buy and on my motor was worth 100+ rpms and a conservative 1 mph gain. You will have to supply the needed spacers if you plan to use the stock nuts/bolts but otherwise its a direct bolt up and quality product.

Re: Modded B&S Carb From Gecker
Thanks for the info. I appreciate it. I was looking at doing this, but its not enough gain for what i was wanting.

Re: Modded B&S Carb From Gecker
I did noticed a little better throttle response with the less restrictive filter. IMO in order to get the most out of the highflow carb you really need the high flow filter and exhaust to maximize things.

Re: Modded B&S Carb From Gecker
I have already ordered the Marsh Mellow Exhaust so hopefully will have some better airflow through the engine... Again all test were done w/ a Gator-Tail GTR35 100% stock 90hrs on engine vs. modded carb same engine of course etc.....

I believe you, but this serves a dual purpose. Keeps it from getting ripped off running through the buckbrush and trees since its only held on with a clamp.

Yes I'm happy. I wish I had got the right carb the first time and didn't have issues with the sticky linkage on the 2nd... 3rd time was the charm...
