1645 swf excel with 35HD speed issues
Hey guys. Question here. I am running a 1645 SWF excel with a 35 HD... I feel as if this thing is loosing speed....and should just plain be a little quicker.
I noticed the other day I only got 24 with just me gas and one other guy. Both of us are only 150 a piece... I swore I use to get high 20s no problem. 27 or so.
The motor revs up effortleslly to its full rpm range but has a rough idle. Going to do a tune up tomorow. My prop somewhat sounds like its cavitating alot (but it could be me just thinking this)
The prop is somewhat sharp towards the very outside of the ear and I was told it is "scalloped" and I am pretty this could cause my speed loss.
Opinions?

Do you have any big dents in the bottom by your transom?
Check your neutral rpms at full throttle and set them to 4300
Check your carb to make sure it is opening all the way.

You answered yourself. If prop is sharp along the tips that means it's burnt up.

No dents and my rpm range is 3900 to 4100 wide open.
So that's the case? The prop is shot?

39-4100 in neutra? If so, bump it up to 4300.

Have you checked your rpm in neutral

Just over 4100. I dont beleive 200 rpms would cause a significant decrease. I have done numerous searches and cannot find much information on this setup and its speeds from other guys.

When you're running the boat what rpms do you turn?
In all actuality, it's probably your valves leaking. As far as speeds, friend of mine had one before he got his PD rig. Stock with a good prop, he was a steady 29mph solo until he put a huge dent in the boat.

Valves leaking? The motor only has 80 hours on it...
It turns like 3800 in the water... Motor revs up effortlessly and sounds solid. Feels like it makes good power just I think it should be faster. Would not be that big of a deal if I didnt see other guys with the same setup running quicker.

If you dont think 200 rpms would make a difference, then turn your motor down to 3900 rpms in neutral.
