 Need advice
I just bought a gator tail 35hp with reverse and hydraulic trim. I had been running a long tail and a GD short tail. With those motors when I hit a stump the prop would pop up then I had to get hold of the tiller again. With this new rig I don't see that hapenning. So any advice from those of you with experiance running in stump filled waters. I will hit stumps, so is there anything I can do to keep from damaging my prop, clutch and drive belt?

 Re: Need advice
Are you saying the "lower unit" and prop is not popping up when hitting stumps.

 Re: Need advice
I run plenty of stumps and have never damaged a prop (other than a piece of steel I hit) or belt or anything else.
This motor is weighted back so when you hit a stump it will fall back in the water.
Is that what you were asking?

 Re: Need advice
Don't hit any steel. If you can't tell that's about 1/2 to 5/8 turned on 90 degrees.

 Re: Need advice
I haven't hit a stump with it yet. I've only had it three days. I am wondering if the hydralic trim will prevent the prop-lower unit from popping up when the prop striks a stump. I sure don't want to hit any steal. There are a few old brigde pillings made of steal that I know of that I've always avoided.
While running accross the stump filled mud flats should I trim the lower unit low in the water as the manuel states for running in mud or keep it shallow as it says for running on sand.

 Re: Need advice
If running stumpy waters keep the motor trimmed as high as possible while being able to maintain speed.

 Re: Need advice
The motor will kick up when you hit a stump, don't worry about it.
