Ok you are wanting to put a sd or lt on a fiberglass 16' carolina skiff..... either one.....I guess, what conditions are you running? The places you can get into in a sd or lt could destroy the hull. Have you ever run either a sd or lt?

I had one with a GTR 35 on it. Had all kinds of problems with Carolina Skiff. Old threads are not around anymore as far as I know. If you have not bought the J-16 yet PM me and I will give you the facts.

maybe too late. I'm just seeing this now. I run a J16 w/ 35mb...bought it new in 06'. We beefed up the transom before we set the motor on it and it's still running strong today. We run ours in freshwater lakes and marsh only. We have the deck on the bow, seat in the middle and rear. Loaded down w/ 3 heavy guys and gear, we're getting 23-25 knots pending on the depth. The modification, performance carb and exhaust , to the engine made a big difference with performance. We went from 3800 rpms to 4300 and that's a big difference when pushing weight. The whole shot and top end are much better. It's a comfortable boat and it suit our needs fine. Good luck and let me know if you have any additional questions.
