So its my understanding that they have shipped about 90+ carbs out at this point. Where are all these people and the reviews? I really do appreciate the one that did. But I would like to see more.

Yeah, I'm going to have videos with the exhaust so yall can hear it  but I went with Marsh Mellow Exhaust not Geckers... I liked a more compact design... I've seen a few PD exhausts Gecker has done and it looks pretty good.

One thing I forgot.

Very nice air cleaner cover you fabricated. Are you making them to resell? I would be intrested if you are as my setup is the same as yours.

What it comes down to is that the stage 2 carb was supposed to have close to the same performance as a mikuni.I know that you will need the exhaust also to get more out of the carb. There are a couple of guys from down in Venice running bps cross over with the mikuni and they have gotten way more out of that set up.This may cost more but they are seeing better results with that set up.This is without head work and cam also.

Westend, great layout on the review and nice tutorial on the install. We are happy that you are happy with the results. It is a shame that we cannot measure the amount of bottom end gain that was achieved with the carb only swap out you did. The only way to measure that is with elapsed time. Oh well. We can do that here with a lap time system called a Mychron 4 but I would be hesitant in passing that info out.

The biggest gains between a stock carb and the level 2 carb will be seen when the boat is loaded down. If you compared the 2 back to back with the same varying amounts of weight in the boat, you would find that the difference is bigger when you have more weight. The Level 2 carb will respond different to these changes than the Mikuni will because of it's torque differences.

Regarding the Mikuni: One fact has been omitted from the discussion of the Level 2 Briggs carb versus a Mikuni: When you install a Mikuni carb, you get the benefit of the air filter and the benefit of very small air entrance interference at the air horn when compared to the stock air box and stock air filter that Westend has in place on his Level 2 carb. Some people have seen a 1-1.5 MPG increase by just replacing the stock air filter box with the good air filter and the air filter adapter on stock carbs that we make and sell. If you add that to Westends gain and some of the other peoples gains on the Level 2, it is very comparable to and in some cases better than the Mikuni. If you put that stock air filter box in front of a Mikuni, you will kill the Mikuni performance.
Either way, the torque improvement up off of the bottom is better on the Level 2 carb than the stock Mikuni carb. Net speed may be a little less with the stock air box but with the same type of filter system on the Level 2 carb, the results are very close for a lot less money and not the acceleration issues that some Mikuni’s have. Now if Westend was able to turn more rpm the improvement may be different. If you were able to change clutch gear size, the gain would be different.

We have tried hard to ship each order in a timely fashion and we admit we have made a few mistakes which every business does. We definitely don't want any of those here but compared to how much we are successful in shipping each day, the numbers are very small. I believe of all the carbs we have sent to MMT people and people from other sites that we sponsor, only 3 mistakes. There have been a couple of cases where we made mistakes but sent product next day air at no charge to the customer in hopes of making the transaction smooth back out. That fact does not get mentioned. Just bashing instead. We ship between 15 and 30 packages a day here for several markets. It is not the easiest job to stay on top of everything but we are trying. The bottom line is the quality is good and we are trying to serve people with no errors. We are hoping to add an office person in the near future to help us on the business side of everything that we do here. Thanks to those that have done business with us.

By the way, if anyone’s knows of CNC operators with Gibbs experience in the central Florida area, please send them our way. Our programmer Rene, has the swine flu and may be a few weeks now before he is back. He definitely does not need to come back until he is no longer contagious!

Thanks

GECKER,

Thanks for the replies to the questions poised. Many of us are wondering the same questions, but didn't want to clutter the thread. IMO too much is made of speed increase than of load with speed ability of these motor set-ups. All one has to do is look at the THIALAND videos to realize that speed is a product of RPM vs WEIGHT. Those motors turn killer RPM with almost no weight from what is called a boat/driver. Don't get me wrong I like to get to my location quick, but not to sacrifice load carrying ability. My main interest is to get there and back whether hunting or fishing. Seems that many times add on parts and installers are blamed for a lack of Motor durability and performance increase. Seems that the more stress placed upon these motors with the addition of MODS the more weaknesses are exposed. There has to be a trade off somewhere. Thanks for your work on small engines and thanks for being a part of MMT. JMO sorry to vent.

That is something I failed to mention. Gecker did Next Day Air all my carbs they sent me in order to get me going faster. Weather / Cold Fronts and work had me tied down as well. Again, I'm happy with my modded carb.

We wanted to let everyone know that we have 35 carbs in stock now in both styles in Level 1 and Level 2. We are short on 36 and 23's right now. So if you have a 35, we can fix your needs quickly. We have some 36's coming back but we have no 23's with the square fuel bowl. We have 23's with the round fuel bowl.

Thanks

Just an FYI and sort of an update as you all know I wanted to keep the review & install I have posted in my signature fairly clean...

I'm back to my stock carb after my linkage began to stick on the modified carb. I pulled linkage from and tested them. Both when swapped in were smooth in my stock carb both very sticky in the modded.

I hope to get a resolution to this tomorrow or I'll just run my stock carb from now on. Last night was my new best time 12min carb removal and install

When I say its sticking I mean she'll open fine but won't come back causing me to have major issues with idle speeds. Its a brand new carb (the modded) which leads me to believe there's another burr in the grooves where the linkage slides through and rests... 2nd time I've had this problem.

Boat ran great today w/ stock carb and MM exhaust.

Sorry I should have specified... It was sticking after my first test run. I was able to make a few passes to get the numbers I posted up but the engine gets stuck in WOT not good at all! I noticed it just was hoping it was something to do with my springs and tension on the governor plates and brackets.

Post Re: Modded B&S Carb From Gecker
Thought I might add an update on my modded carb and exhaust from Sheldon. My 36 is running better than it ever has. With the stock carb it was cold natured bad, I would have to choke 1/2 choke until warmed up. With the modded carb I choke it one time till it starts then don't have to choke it at all. I added a 12x13 hopkins cleaver and now it instantly will plane, and run 27 mph @ 4150 rpm. I havn't ran a load with the cleaver, but I n=may send it back and have it pitched to 14 if it handles a load well. I think the 4150 is on the Gov.

As said in an earlier post I'm very pleased with my purchase from Sheldon. I'm still waiting on some differenr t exhaust tips and silencer baffles, but I'm sure I'll have them soon.
