Post Pearl River outlook for Opening Day
Hunted the Pearl River with two 15 yr old youth hunters this weekend. They shot a total of 15 birds over two days. Nine BWs, three GWs, one grey, one female ruddy duck and one woodduck.

This is the least amount of birds I have seen one week before opening day down in the Pearl. Wood ducks are plentiful along with a few mottled ducks. We saw maybe 200 total teal, one band of grey ducks, a red head and a few dosgris. We did see a bunch of pouldeaus and grebes.

Ponds have plnety of grass and this is the healthiest that marsh has been in a while. Lots of cover and lots of feed in the ponds. Lack of feed is definitely not causing the lack of birds.

Unless a bunch of birds show up between now and Saturday, it is going to be a bleak opening day. This is not an attempt to dissuade anyone from hunting there and is not an attempt to deceive anyone.

I went out to the Pearl this afternoon and NOTHING!! Where are the birds??

Going to go give the Biloxi Marsh a ride tomorrow. Hopefully, I'll see something there.

It looks bad indeed. The wife and I went fishing today in Reggio and Delacroix and what I saw out there was so bad if that's where I hunted I'd stay home. No bullshit

Rode through ponds on my lease around burns point this wkmd. It's the worst I seen it. Rode sat evening through the biggest and best pond we have and saw 0 ducks. Brushed blinds on sunday and saw 2 groups of 10 out of 4 different ponds.

I saw an internet scouting report from a guy named CrazyBrady. He said he was going to be eating their lunch opening weekend at his place.

My lease is within earshot of the lower Pearl on a north and east wind and it was rockin' on Saturday. Sounded like opening day of regular season. Plenty of birds in the area and all the shooting will get them moving.

Just looked at the migratory season 2013-2014 for east zone and says opening day for the first split is Nov 23rd not the 9th?

Is the delay due to lack of teal tags?

Yes, probably so. I read an article in the new issue of LA Sportsman this morning talking about that very subject. Andy Crawford wrote about how the state was running short on funds because of the mess with OBAMADONTCARE legislation. They haven't been able to print enough tags because they are trying to print medical vouchers because the Health Insurance Exchange website is so messed up. No WMA Teal Tags = No duck hunting.
