Post Ignition issue
So.. I was out hunting the other night with a Special Forces buddy of mine, and when we packed up the boat and we were ready to head home, when I turned the key the engine wouldnt turn over, like it wasnt getting power to the starter. I turned on my lights to make sure it wasnt the battery, and the lights came right on, bright as ever so it wasnt the battery. I also checked the connection to the starter and everything looks to be good to go. so I'm thinking its the ignition module that the key turns in.. anybody ever had problems with these? or any other suggestions before I go and buy a new module?? thanks for the help guys.

ps- luckily my 16 GDLT has a pull start on her. she fired right up after 1 pull and off we went.

You need to check with volt meter if the starter does get power when you turn the key. This will help you narrow it down. Could be the switch, could be the mercury switch that works if the prop if out of the water but I'm not sure if that is wired to the starter or ignition, or it could be the battery wires, soleniod or the starter.

Also just because you lights came on doesn't mean it had enough cranking amps to turn over the motor. Although these motors can be started with a very small battery, so that's probably not the case.

Sweet! thanks. I'll have to check it out sometime in the next couple days when I'm off work. Thanks for the advice. I'll keep you informed on what I find out.

Shit Bricks!! So.. I put a new ignition switch in her after checking all the connections,, and it started right up. Went out this morning for a nice thanksgiving day hunt, and the bitch wouldnt start. it was doing the exact same thing. just,, when you turn the key, nothin.. luckily I got her pull started, but still! its kickin my ass.. I'm gunna take off the battery cables sometime soon and see if thats the problem.

I had/have a similar problem and I installed a second set of battery cables to see if that was it since I had some extra cable laying around. Sometimes the cables can get pinched or corroded beneath the sheathing without you knowing it. Although I would think you would have a little more warning like weak starts. You really need to check voltage at the starter to see if it is getting any when you turn the key. The starter or soleniod can be completely working or not just like you described.

Take a screwdrive and rap on the starter solenoid and see if it cranks.
