 Oil Filter Leaking...
I just changed my oil filter and oil. After running around Sunday I noticed a small amount of residue / oil on the filter...
Nothing leaking heavily but enough that when I grabbed it was slick.
The old one didn't leak. (WIX)
When I installed the new one (WIX) I removed the old filter wiped down where the oil filter seats, applied some oil to the o-ring and reinstalled as tight as I could get it with my hands then grabbed the wrench and turned it a 1/4 of a turn to snug it up.
Did I not tighten it enough? Is it leaking b/c when I installed it, it was 70 outside and I noticed it was leaking after it dropped down to high 40's?
I have no clue... Maybe bad / defective filter? As I said nothing is pouring out or anything so I think its okay...
Any input from the board?

 Re: Oil Filter Leaking...
Perhaps I over tightened it... and the rubber gasket (seal) is allowing oil to leak out a little? I'm going to go mess with it when I get off work.
Question- If I remove oil filter will oil start pouring out of where the filter sits? I guess what I'm getting at here is do I need to drain the oil before removing the filter? I just replaced my oil...

 Re: Oil Filter Leaking...
Don't think so. Your best bet would be to just replace the filter again.

 Re: Oil Filter Leaking...
possibly over tightened it and busted the gasket. just replace it but only hand tighten. when you take it off some oil will come out just clean it up and top off the engine oil. you can get some brake parts cleaner and clean off the new filter really good to be sure its not just old oil residue
