Post Exhaust extension
I read in a past forum where someone extended their exhaust pipe to 1 inch under the water to quiet it down. Wouldn't this cause a back pressure problem and or cause the motor to run hot? I have a 35 HP new Go-Devil longtail and while the noise doesn't bother me too much, I do get quite a few exhaust fumes in the boat while making long runs. (I have the motor enclosed in the back) If I could lengthen the exhaust pipe to extend out the blind without damaging performance or the motor, I'd do it in a heartbeat. Any thoughts???

You can run your exhaust into the water. I did it on a short tail I had a few years ago. The baffels broke in the muffler so I gutted it and put it back on the motor. It was loud and would backfire badly. I added and extension that was underwater that attached to my outdrive. It worked great. When I wasn't on plane its was very quiet, when on plane it was about the same as stock mabye a little louder. The backfiring stopped completely. I could run the boat hard come off plane and shut it down immediately and it wouldn't bacfire. Some people said if the engine knocked and ran backwards at shutoff it would suck water into the engine. It never happened to me and I find it very unlikely.

If you do try it don't put the outlet close to the prop. It could cause cavitation.
