 Hello, and a few questions
Howdy, first post.
I live in Ohio and make a few runs to Arkansas every year. Last year I bought a 14' Alumaweld jon with a 1966 Johnson 20. This past weekend the lower unit froze and I managed to get it jammed in reverse. Now, I'm done with that POS motor.
I'd like to build a surface drive for hunting the woods in Arkansas but am unsure of a longtail or short.
I am not terribly mechanically inclined but I take instruction well and have access to two state of the art machine shops.
I'm thinking aluminum frame. 16-23hp? Briggs, Honda, ?? Trigger or twist throttle?

Re: Hello, and a few questions
I'm guessing your not looking to spend much money on this since you bought a 50 year old outboard........
Buy a used GD longtail and mount it on that boat. It won't be great, but it beats trying to build one.

Re: Hello, and a few questions
Dmax,
I have not driven either. I hunt a few times a year in the woods of Arkansas. I do also hunt a few shallow marshes in Ohio on occasion. Mainly I hunt a big deep water reservoir but I'm looking at a big deep v for that.

Re: Hello, and a few questions
Try to drive both before you buy or try to build either.
