Went out today for the maden voyage. With 850 pounds in the boat I got 23 in deep water and 27 in shallow water. Was turning 4100-4200 rpms. Need a little help. I have never run the mikuni setup. Motor bogged down on take off. If I ease into the throttle I was fine. I tried to hammer down and it would spit and sputter. I know this isn't 30mph but I came from a 29hp 1st gen hyperdrive. I am very impressed. Reverse works great have to make sure you are trimmed way down or you get nice bath. Forgot to mention I am running the hammer prop.

Take the hammer prop off. You need to be turning 4400 rpm's to run that. Also check to see if you have the bigger cavatation plate or one of the smaller ones. I cut and inch off the rear of mine and noticed a huge difference in the hole shot. Good luck.

There is a screw on the side of the carb, I beleive you turn in counter clockwise around a half a rotation and that should help with the bogging on take off. Someone correct me if I am telling him to turn the wrong way.

Make sure that your acc. pump is set to where its almost touching the acc. shaft. You want about a .002 gap between them.

I have never ran out of adjustment. I would think the throttle spring in the picture is either worn out or binding and not letting you get full travel out of the white acc. adjustment. Im not sure on this theory but its what I think.lol

When I get home this afternoon I will check a carb out to see if it could be anything else causing yours not to close the gap.

I am working nights until tuesday. I am going to cut my cavitation plate and run it again. I drove 200 miles round trip to get my boat inspection and no issues with the tiller handle cracking. I put the bungee on it after I noticed it was bouncing pretty hard that fixed that. I will post reviews when I get them.

Went out today me and my 4 year old got 30 in shallow water 28 in deep. I am so used to not having reverse I keep killing the engine to stop instead of using reverse. Cut cavitation plate and I do get a better hole shot. Boat planes in abouy 1.5 lengths now. With me and two buddies we were running 23 in deep water 18 ft deep .

Ok. I know I havent been on in a while. I broke the lower unit hitting a stump at 30mph in the first 45minutes on the motor. I was treated great by mudbuddy, it took 1.5 weeks to get the replacement. I have since put 3 hours on the new one and have hit several stumps with no issues. The start in neutral switch gave me some fits but all is good. The reverse is awesome I used it today and I backed through some thick stuff to my suprise. I know I still only have 3 hours on it. I have an eleven year old playing travel baseball so. I will post more as I get more hours. I love the motor as long as it holds up to the pounding. I will break it if it can be broke the lakes where I live are mine fields. The 18x54 swc is freaking amazing.

Bubba if it broke within 45 minutes of run time hitting a stump, then I would say you are gonna be SOL on it holding up in the future.

I have ten hours on it now no other issues. I have hit a bunch of stumps duck hunting with no cracks to any of the casting. I had 1300 pounds of guys 80 pound dog four guns decoys mojos in it the other day and still hit 22. This boat floats great also same load in 5 to 6 inches of water hard packed bottom and vegetation was still going with little effort at idle. Reverse is unreal. I came around the bend in a small river and a tree was all the way across. I was running full out and put in reverse boat stopped on a dime. Saved everyone in the boat. I know its only 10 hours but I said I would post reviews. I will post more as the season progresses.

Ok here goes. I am currently on the third lower unit. My tiller handle broke with the support kit installed. I was out yesterday on the Brazos River and lower unit shattered again. I know you guys told me not to buy this motor but I did anyway. But, while floating back down the river on Christmas day I emailed *****. Not five minutes later I had a response and he assured me they would get me into a different motor. What a great concept. This is the best performing motor I have ever seen. Runs balls out and the reverse is awesome. It just will not work for stumps or rocks. I have to really give great reviews to mud buddy. They have yet to let me down in the aspect of replacement lower units. This motor may never be good enough to run in the ruff stuff that I run but I wish it would. ***** said that Glade would contact me today and take care of my situation. Now you can talk bad about this engine lord knows I am disappointed but you can't talk bad about a company that responds to an email on Christmas day and assured me they would take care of my problem. I pretty sure I will be going with an HD Sport. Also Glade sent me an email last night around 8 p.m. and said he would contact me today. Like I said this motor when running is a beast but currently it will not stand up to what I am putting it through. Thank you ***** for responding to me yesterday that's why I will be a life long mud buddy customer. Some of you hell all of you will say I am crazy for sticking with them but answer this question. Do you think gator tail, pro drive, or go devil would have answered an email on Christmas day and then started the ball rolling on getting my situation handled. I am not saying they wouldn't but mud buddy answered and that my friends is someone who values their customers.

My motor mechanic answered his phone yesterday. Difference with MB and others is MB has to answer everyday, they have so many failures it the only way they can keep up. Good luck with your new motor, but I believe I would try something different.

There is a big difference in your motor mechanic answering the phone and the owner of mud buddy. That's a dumb ass reply. I guess you would rather hear he didn't answer and I am stuck with a broke motor. And yes it his job to do damage control. Would you like it if you had a lemon automobile and they just left you with nothing. If someone went out of their way to assure you it would be fixed and they would make it right that in my mind is customer service.

"A" lemon automobile is a little bit of a different story than this, plus there is a "lemon law" in the auto industry, sounds like there ought to be one in the mudmotor industry... but then you'll be back to the sinking ship again.

OP you have Stockholm syndrome: 3 lower units and you're still a satisfied customer?

"One commonly used hypothesis to explain the effect of Stockholm syndrome is based on Freudian theory. It suggests that the bonding is the individual’s response to trauma in becoming a victim. Identifying with the aggressor is one way that the ego defends itself. When a victim believes the same values as the aggressor, they cease to be a threat."
