Re: Short stopping mallards in Arkansas confirmed intentiona
Goose hunting yesterday in Central Nebraska would have resulted in a 4 man limit of mallards if the season was open. They are thick up here in certain places even after a month of really cold weather.
Blame it on agriculture practices and seasonal weather patterns happening later that they used to.

Re: Short stopping mallards in Arkansas confirmed intentiona
There's plenty of natural feed here in Louisiana. Mallards don't need to snack anywhere else. The only conservation measure we need is the preservation and protection of breeding grounds in Canada. Everything else is just an attempt to attract and hold ducks before they get here.

Re: Short stopping mallards in Arkansas confirmed intentiona
I don't have an answer. All I know is I've been hunting ducks for over 50 years and have never seen fewer mallards and pintails here in my area of Louisiana. It's not a illusion. It's a fact and I'm pretty sure the surveys will correlate.

Why on earth would a duck eat duck potato and wigeon grass and snails and shit if it could eat corn and rice and sudan and soybeans and not get shot while doing it? This whole thing is stupid.

Re: Short stopping mallards in Arkansas confirmed intentiona
The South Carolina example: "For example, the Santee National Wildlife Refuge wintering mallard counts have declined from over 100,000 in the late 1970's to less than 5,000 mallards over the last several years. The primary reason for this decline at Santee and across South Carolina has been a change in mallard behavior over the past 25 years. Mallards have adapted to wintering farther north while utilizing available open water habitats and abundant grain supplies in flooded and dry grain fields. This change in migratory patterns is similar to that experienced with South Carolina's once abundant wintering Canada goose populations that now winter farther north." http://www.scwa.org/Join_MRP.pdfLouisianians spend, by far, more money on duck hunting than any other state yet our mallards are being slaughtered up north in cornfields and other artificial habitats. Something needs to be done to stop this.

Well what in the fuck do you propose, stop farming corn and rice? This shit is fucking retarded man. It truly is. They're not our mallards. They survive by adapting to their environment. It's simple.

There are seasons when mallards don't make it to Illinois. I don't bitch about it, I hunt and take the bounty the good Lord gives me. I'm damn grateful for it too. Warming weather patterns, abundant open water and plenty of food make the fabled "short stop" happen. If you don't like the way ducks migrate then stop hunting. It is what it is.

It happens in other areas too..deal with it. Eastern PA is good goose hunting now whereas 20 years ago, you would've been hard pressed to shoot at a goose.
Oh wait Dean, I have a solution for you... Why don't you and your liberal legislators, pass some laws mandating that the waterfowl must fly and migrate only where allowed.

Re: Short stopping mallards in Arkansas confirmed intentiona
Honestly , I think Dean y'all were one good cold front from getting all them this year, they ain't really made it to us in several years. But the warming trend we are in right now probably sending them north as we speak. They ain't gonna hang around and get shot and not have much food at same time, they going where the food is, and unfortunately mallard don't key in a acorns and natural feed anymore, it's all about the corn, peanuts , beans and so on. But with that being said , it's nice to kill limits of mallard , but I'm just as happy with a boat full of gaddies , or teal

Dguidry, why don't you move to Canada? Shitload of mallards there, and when you shoot a greenhead in a cornfield you can rub it in our face.
Plus they are even closer to communism than we are.

Re: Short stopping mallards in Arkansas confirmed intentiona
The more I think about it, the more this irks me. Dguidry, you aren't entitled to a fucking thing in this world. A man has to make his own way. If you want something, work hard at it to achieve it. Don't expect shit to be handed to you. The only things you are entitled to are air and opportunity. A sense of entitlement is probably the number 1 thing on my list of pet peeves. It is an indication of laziness. And you aren't a cajun. A real cajun would adapt to their surroundings and substitute mallard killing with hunting of other species. And a real cajun wouldn't whine about it like a baby back bitch, he would do something about it and make his own way. So quit making that claim, because your ancestors would frown upon this behavior.
If you want to kill mallards, carry your old fat ass north and shoot some. If not, quit whining about it. You can't change a damn thing about the way that an animal adapts to its situation. Period.

Re: Short stopping mallards in Arkansas confirmed intentiona
There is no doubt in my mind that mallards and other species have stopped migrating as far as they used to. With the advancements in biological knowledge and research its obvious that certain practices have changed the way certain species migrate. I have a place in GA I hunt and 20yrs ago it was nothing to fill your straps with m allards and pintail (or any other puddle duck). Now those species are considered unicorns on this particular lake. Sure it still fills up with divers and such but where did the puddle ducks go? Cant tell me the numbers are down because DUCK makes it very clear every year that birds are on the rise. After research the only answer is that these birds are being shortcut and not migrating. Mallards up north are a lot bigger than the ones we get down here because of the abundance of food readily available to them. The bottom line is the popularity of duck hunting has grown and therefore more research is being put into it creating more clubs/leases/planted private hunting areas everywhere even down here. I've come to grips with reality and realized this is how its going to be. I've adapted and now primarily shoot divers. I hate it just as much as the next guy but like I said it is what it is. So for the first time since I joined mgmt I agree with dguidry but I don't agree with your political agenda, the n!ggers you represent, or the n!gger/Muslim (or what ever the fuk he is) that you worship.

Re: Short stopping mallards in Arkansas confirmed intentiona
Crying about it doesnt do any good. i dont know many people who had a real good season this year. I know plenty still killing ducks but most say definately not good like last yr. The days the douche bag refers to are long gone and he just needs to accept it. As someone else also stated....a real cajun would adapt and overcome....not cry like a fukkin baby on the inet about it. Bring the fishing line on hunts u know will be slow. Last duck hunt, only 1 grey duck, but me and the kids came back with 13 rabbits too. I have not hunted near as much for ducks as i usually do...spent a lil more time deer hunting this season. As a result....the kids spent more time deer hunting. last weekend while i was here at work,my 14 yr old son asked to go to mississip with his friend and friends dad. i told him to make sure not to waste bullets. The lil fukker came back with an 8 point buck and a lil doe. I am proud of him. The point i make is....had those damn ducks not been shortstopped....my son would have never killed that buck. Common sense cant be taught in colleges.

Re: Short stopping mallards in Arkansas confirmed intentiona
I thought a true hunter appreciates the experience and nature and if there's anything in your bag, it's a bonus. Bitching about not killing a limit the way you are, earns you "worlds greatest c0ck sucking pansy" award.
How about a warm glass of shut the hells up. You are giving all hunters a bad name.
A couple weeks ago, I went goose hunting with my brother (Mike) and good friend (Ray), and sadly I have the LEAST amount of physical issues of the three of us. Close to 30 years ago, I had 4 rods implanted and 8 vertebrae fused. Also my Charcot Marie Tooth disorder has progressed that walking with hunting boots and insulated bibs becomes a challenge BEFORE trying to carry gear across a field. It takes me a day to recover from a hunt. It's the way it is, so I deal with it.
Mike had a kidney transplant followed by a stroke 15 years ago and was 100% paralyzed on the right side. He has recovered 70% but still has limited movement with his right arm and leg. He gave up hunting for years because of the stroke. I've finally got him back into limited hunting a couple years ago. He also has trouble with cold temps and walking in hunting gear due to his foot drop.
Ray is the worst.. he had to retire from being a respiratory therapist due to the back pain caused by a tumor against his brain stem. He already has electrical implants in his back in an attempt to trick his body and moderate the pain. For every one day in the field, he spends 3 days on his back, heavily medicated recovering.
We met at 4:30am and took the next 3 hrs lugging 100 full body decoys and layout blinds 300 yards. When it was all said and done.... We got one goose when a full limit would have been 9 birds, and we all considered the hunt to be a success. Mike got to pull the trigger on a goose, first time since before his stroke. Ray got to spend some time afield while he barely can. Afterwards, he told me that the day is fast approaching that he will no longer be able to hunt at all (he only gets out about 10 Times all season now). And when that time comes, he will most likely say bye to his wife and put a bullet in his head.
So... Dean, quit your bitching about not shooting a limit.

We all rolled craps in genetics....and have bad luck... My brother caught an infection that attacked his kidneys requiring him to have a transplant. My scoliosis and CMT is hereditary. Ray just rolled craps all around.
