 motor for trapping
Hi my names Chris Rishe I want to get a mud motor for trapping and have a few things I need help with, first what do you guys think would be better for a 12-15 ft flat bottom boat a longtail or shorttail? Also I've been looking at kits online, what's a good company to get one from? Thanks for the help

 Re: motor for trapping
For that size of boat I would say longtail, but really depends on how much you wanna spend... being for trapping the longtail would prolly suit ya alright... The kits that I have seen online like the thai direct drives you can bet are crap and will prolly cost you money in the long run... Depending on what part of the country you're from, take your fur check and spend it on a used or new longtail from a reputable company like go-devil or Backh2o... you can also fabricate your own if you already have the ability and tools to do so, there is a wealth of info on this site, just gotta wade through the crap to find what your looking for... Welcome

 Re: motor for trapping
Started out trapping with a Lt and now run a Sd. When I find another Lt I'm going back and putting it on my 1842. My terrain is sand, rocks and logs so the Lt works better than the Sd.

 Re: motor for trapping
I trap a ton out of my boat, depending on what your trapping and how much would determine the size boat u run. I run a 18ft boat with a modded 35hp, I wouldn't go less then 16ft and get a fairly wide boat 50 inches. nice to have stability and room for equipment. I would say survace drive just cause its easier to pull up to sets and maneuver quik but a longtail would work too.. I run a large boat because we are on the river and run a 50-100 sets

 Re: motor for trapping
If it is just a hobby, I say long tail. A lot cheaper. Don't even think about buying one of those SPS kits online
