Re: Short stopping mallards in Arkansas confirmed intentiona
Blame it on the ethanol that the Government makes us use. These aren't hard facts because I didn't do any research. It's just the way I kind of remember it. So someone correct me if I'm wrong.
Duck hunting was excellent just about any where in South La back in 2000 and it seems to get worse every year. Corn/ethanol has become a big business and has made a lot of people rich. They are farming corn just about everywhere now. below is a chart of ethanol production for the last five years. It seems to me that as the ethanol production goes up, the ducks in the south decline. So the only reason ethanol production to go up is to grow more corn.
Annual Fuel Ethanol Production in millions of gallons World rank Country/Region 1 United States
2011 13,900 million gal. 2010 13,231 million gal. 2009 10,938 million gal. 2008 9,235 million gal. 2007 6,485 million gal.
This my friends is the reason the ducks don't winter in La any more. So I blame it on the government for the ethanol.

Dean, I am not gonna knock you for your opinion but I would compare it to me being pissed that I can't catch yellowfin tuna or mahi up here in lake Erie.

Re: Short stopping mallards in Arkansas confirmed intentiona
Dean you right about working the mallards , one of the best things in the world, we been lucky enough to get to work huge groups this year, today we finished a group of around 100 but only 5 fell in that group. But it was priceless as a duck hunter, also love watching groups of pintail, best part of duck hunting is watching the birds.

Re: Short stopping mallards in Arkansas confirmed intentiona
Like I said, lots of folks are still killing mallards in Louisiana. They have changed patterns and are a little harder to kill... But they are still coming down.

Can I blame the Canucks for holding them up there too long? I don't get to shoot northern mallards till mid november if the weather cooperates.
