 Re: bilge pump decoy
i built one for this season - pretty simple to build, except i can't get mine to run for more than about 45 minutes. bilge pulls too many amps. I'm working on another. I will try to take some pics

 Re: bilge pump decoy
Pretty simple. Duck butt, bilge pump, wire, battery, plug and auto flasher. I use the bag to put my batteries inside and they clip to the wire so I'm not pulling on the plug connection when I haul the battery up. Battery is the weight. Wire is soldered to the battery terminals and coated with liquid electrical tape. If you just use a spade connector at the battery terminals it will eat the terminals up over time. The duck butts I have came from BPS or Walmart but they dont carry them any more. Nice flat keel to attach the pump to. I would leave the keel because it causes a better rocking action IMO. Some folks cut them off.

 Re: bilge pump decoy
Its a 12v from Academy. You should be able to get them anywhere they sell feeder type batteries. I have gotten 4-5 hours out of a new battery. I took these pics last year and you can see its a 2005 battery by the marking. I am still getting between 3+ hours out of it.

I am going to ask the stupid question.

 Re: bilge pump decoy
I don't have any right now - looks like the others you see around the web. I cut off the keel, mounted a bilge on the bottom using a thermoplastic welder, ran a 8" painted black piece of PVC to the back of the duck, put a 45 elbow on the end to create a little wake, turn the elbow a little cock eyed to give it some direction. I'm building another right now with the bigger battery (mentioned above). I will take some pics of it, my current one don't float too well. Flasher - are there different kinds? I would think a "blinker" speed would be to quick of a pulse/flash.

 Re: bilge pump decoy
Heres the one I built before the season. I just changed to the pigtails like Poker1's after seeing his. Thanks man. I didn't like the way my pump mounted to the deke I had and it didn't work too well without the keel, it sucked too much air. So I used two plugs, a coupler, and the sand out the original keel to make my own keel. I pushed my flasher into a pvc cap and siliconed it in to further waterproof it. I hadn't had a problem with it being too cold, but it isn't in the water. Just as Poker1, I used the hell outta the Liquid Electrical Tape just in case the box would leak. The box came from Wally World for about seven dollas and will fit everything in it. The water-tight cord connector is from Grainger and that biatch was damn near 4 dollas. If I had to do it again I would just put a rubber grommet and liquid tape it since I did that to the connector anyway. It doesn't have any tension on that fitting when pulling it up since I double wrapped and tie wrapped the wire on the box.

 Re: bilge pump decoy
So you can get this action in your decoys on windless days without running out jerk lines. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r7NmuTEvXps

 Re: bilge pump decoy
How do you think it would work if got a regular decoy and tried to make it bobb up and down? I was thinkin mount the pump on the bottom towards the front and pipe the discharge to the back and up similar to the duck butt. Any thoughts from u guys that have built one? Also how do you think this shiat will hold up in saltwater.
