 head work Look just wanting to know about head work some people say u can just do them and some say u have to change the pistons I have a stage 2 carb what should I do to the heads

Re: head work Don"t deck the heads ,have Wayne at harahan auto and machine shop, harahan la. put in the manley stainless valves, these are performance valves that are undercut for flow,and high temp alloy, 30 thou over size , he can also clean up the flow.
You will get a true 3 angle valve job.
it cost less than evt or the boat dr and you will be real happy with the work.

Re: head work Head work defined in simple terms.
you can shave (deck) heads to boost compression
you can port and polish the air flow passages to the combustion chamber
you can put oversize valves for more flow
you can reseat/ recut the valve heads and seats to ensure you have as little leakdown as possible
The basic function of a cylinder head is to seal the top of the cylinder bore, allow the intake charge to enter the cylinder, hold high compression forces, withstand the explosion of the power stroke, and allow the exhaust gas to escape. The more efficent you can make the cylinder head work, the more gains you see.
