 Re: 23 MPH gdsd
Are you throwing a rooster-tail when you're doing 23? Go-devils are designed to run faster with the motor trimmed down some.

 Re: 23 MPH gdsd
Yeah, you'll notice a difference if you trim it down to where you're barely throwing a rooster-tail, but not trimmed down all the way.

 Re: 23 MPH gdsd
yup godevils tend to not like being trimmed way up start off trimmed way down and steady trim up to peak speed as you get to high trim her back down a hair and youre good..can also take a marker and mark on the trim knob to make it easier to go right back to the sweet spot if you have to change trim for like mud or anything

 Re: 23 MPH gdsd
Tiny Tach helps a lot too.... You should be running 28mph at about 3800 rpms when properly rigged out.... While on the trailer play with your trim knob and adjust so that when motor is all the way down the cavitation plate is even with and in line with the bottom of the hull.... That will give it a deep bite at takeoff and as you gain speed the trim fins will lift it into the "sweet spot" automatically...
Also get your fuel tanks up front to balance things out properly... Put anything heavy up there too - guns, decoys, ice chest, etc...

 Re: 23 MPH gdsd
When mine was stock I ran between 28 and 30 solo. Took my a while to find that sweet spot with the trim for hole shot. Once on step let the trim tabs do their job, just let the handle float in your hand. If it's not trimming out on top take a 24" crescent and play with the tabs. It doesn't take much to make a huge difference. Also play with wight distribution in your boat. And get the flotation outta there.

 Re: 23 MPH gdsd
Same problem im having. Several people have been telling me i should be running 27-28mph empty (all 130lbs of me and a gas tank) in my 18x60 but the fastest i've seen is 25mph...and im alittle slower trimed down, fastest speeds i've seen were with a HUGE roostertail.

 Re: 23 MPH gdsd
Have ya'll checked your rev limiter ???
You should be able to turn 4100 on the trailer - if not a twist of a screw on the rev limiter will get you dialed in....

 Re: 23 MPH gdsd
According to CoCo the 1660 is his fastest boat. I run 24.5 MpH with my 23hp go devil surface drive. Something is not right. I wonder if your trim tabs and trim is set to the correct spot. I would call CoCo and have him trouble shoot with you. You can look on the go devil website and see a 1660 in action. That thing is humping at good speeds

 Re: 23 MPH gdsd
If you Gus were from here I would have like to go help y'all out. I would give coco a call at go devil today and he will work the problem out for you. The 1660 with one person should get 29 to 30. The 18 should get 26 to 28. Call him up and he will get it right. Tell the receptionist your issue and she will put someone on the phone.

Put a brand new prop on friday and ran all day saturday in deep water, shallow water, no water, with the wind and never got over 24mph... Thats an 18x60 boat and a 35hp GDSD with exhaust and carb air intake...

 Re: 23 MPH gdsd
I'd take a close look at the bottom of your hull for hooks. Something isn't right with your hull. You sure your motor matches youre transom?

 Re: 23 MPH gdsd
The more you bend the trim tabs the better bite you will get. However, you don't want too much bite. Also those motors do not toss up a rooster tail as high as the other mud motors. Trimming it up too high will kill speed. Your cavitation plate should be flat and no higher than three inches above water. Go devils don't like to be trimmed too high. When riding you should be able to pull the motor out of the water with one hand with some effort. You should be able to lean on it and it not pop out of the water. Hooking is another thing that causes a boat to slow down. It would be a dent under the boat. A few dents in one spot can cause a hook. Balancing the weight in the boat can help. If you have too much weight in the back it may not perform that the level you would want it. Move the gas tank up front and make sure the boat is flat on the surface and not leaning to one side.

 Re: 23 MPH gdsd
Yea sumthin aint right. I run a heavy ass 18x54 with a stock 35 and I get speeds around 27-28 runnin light in deep water@3850rpms. My sweet spot on my trim is when my rooster tail is dead even with the top of my motor. Like they said above play with the trim tabs and find the spot where the motor wants to "float" (but not blow out). If motor Is blowing out of water @ WOT then u jus barely start bending tabs up a little at a time. A tiny bit of bending makes alot of difference! If u get it adjusted and still dont see any results then its gotta be something with the hull.

I've run it with a big ass rooster tail, small rooster tail, and none at all and it hits the same speed either way.
