Ive seen plenty of threads discussing boats and lights but what is your favorite bowfishing bow? I havent been in several years but when i was goin frequently I carried an Oneida Screamin Eagle with the stabilizer mount and Zebco 808. I plan to get back into it again soon but the Oneida is out of commission, the top limbs split. I found my old jug (i call it a jug..retreiver reel..whatever..i think it was made by AMS?) layin around and I will probably go back to shooting it instead of the reel. Post up some pics!

Ah barnes im just bored..figured I could get something goin here with you fellas. I really just wanna fix my Oneida..shes specail to me. But I imagine theres some new rigs out that are shooting nicely. I always liked a reel more but from what i see the jug still seems pretty popular.

I like shooting my barracuda. The Gf has the mission menace and thats a nice bow too but doesnt have a constent draw

The American eagle bows look very nice. Appear to be a tweaked Oneida, but I don't know. I'm shooting an AMS bow and retriever set up right now, but I don't really care for it. I think I'm going to be getting a PSE Discovery 2 with the muzzy reel package from F&D. They shoot well and are plenty for shooting the commons and buffs we can shoot up here. I'll probably pick up another retriever set up for others to shoot when I take them.

I wouldn't get a lever bow unless you plan on shooting a lot. Pse discovery II is a good bow for cheap. The cudas are great and pack more punch. But the Oneidas are some smooth hard shooting bows.

I got a Oneida Black Eagle II

AMS fish hawk with ams reel. Grab a used genesis pro and slap and ams reel and save yourself some money. We probably have had 10-15 of these bows between all the guys I bowfish with and have not had any problems except for the plastic bottle cap breaking once in a while. This is sufficient for shooting reds in SE LA so We don't need a 40# draw weight. In all fairness, I have not shot the oneida or some of the new bows, but I ain't complaining.

Those bows seem to have really light draw weight. I used to pull around 50lbs or more depending on the fish we were shooting. The Genesis was the first constant draw bow i can remember. My Oneida had some parts out of another model which made it to where it didnt have a breakover point. The rollers on the cable were a little bigger than the ones i took off of it if i remember right. It was a bit heavy for an all night shoot tho.

I shoot PSE waves and Oneida osprey wife shoots a discovery 2 and none if them pull over 40lbs

Nope, 30-35 lbs seems to be about right. Maybe more with a retriever reel cuz the slider and fat ass line seems to slow things down a bit.

I'm a muzzy shooter and so are most when they get off my boat. Bottles have a place, its to hold my beer

I am a diehard archery hunter. However, I have never bowfished. This is a good thread. I think I am going to buy one in May and try it out.

Here is an update on my oneida. It's badass

The best shooting bow is a Oneida. Just smooth and fast you don't have to aim as low because of the speed they produce. Kids and woman genesis is perfect. I love shooting pse discovery 2 when not my Oneida. AMS fish hall I absolutely hate them. Pse wave close 2nd on dislikes of them. If you have shoulder problems the wave is not for you. If you want shoulder problems also stay away from them lol. AMS has no back bone to it. Makes it have a longer pull to quick draw on a fish. Barracudas are ok as long as your shooting low poundage. Crank them up they become a tork monster and a grenade lol

I started shooting a mission craze last year. I love it. I'm not a snap shooter and I like the 80% let off. I also use a release so finger pinch isn't an issue. I was a little unsure about the short axle (28") being I'm 6'5" but I don't even notice it. I also like the fact that I can set it up for just about anyone in minutes. I can set it at 19" and 20lbs for my 6yo to shoot. My 10yo daughter also shoots a craze and a bear apprentice. I have always been a AMS reel shooter, I've never shot a spinner. Ask 10 people what they prefer and you will get 11 different answers.

I've been bowfishing for over 30 years. Started out using the old round tape-on, wind the line around them reels but migrated to retriever reels when they came out and they have served us well. Over the years we have found that expensive bows (compounds or recurves) and bowfishing don't go together. They get thrown around, dropped, stepped on, pulled out of the boat and into the water by brush and sometimes dropped overboard, so we don't use expensive bows of any kind.

We mostly shoot old, short 52"-58" lightweight 40#-50# recurves and OLD compounds (Bear, Browning, whatever) bought at garage sales, yard sales, archery shoots, whatever is cheap and available. I also use an old wooden handle Browning round wheel compound with 50% let off, set at 45#. It's fairly easy to knock the finish off a bow in a night of serious fun, so that's why we don't shoot fancy/expensive compounds. We shoot a lot, sometimes all day AND all night and we shoot a lot of fish in sometimes cold, nasty weather and found that 40#-45# is adequate for most everything we fish for. Just my opinion on what has worked for us over the years.

This ole rig has been hanging in my shop for at least 6 years now. Everything still seems to be right on it. May could use a new bow string. Only concern is the bottom limb here if you can see the slight split. But It may be alright for a while. Wish I could dig up another parts bow to get this one going again. I changed the rollers with the large cables in it to a newer style. Old ones were plastic and started cracking. The newer ones were a little bigger so it doesn't break over like its supposed to. I liked the change then and it's still strong.

Pse just came out with some new bows and fred at F and D has them in stock check out his website I just got the new PSE elation and love it very smooth shooting bow. The tidal wave is the same bow just in aqua camo.Pse also came out with a 40lb bowfishing discovery. I had one of these last year before it was called the bowfishing discovery its also a good bow. Hell I even like my 29 lb discoverys I got. Which ever one you get there all good bows.

American Eagle will rebuild those old lever bows for ya'll.

I started out with an old Martin speed flight I had but it was way to heavy and fast. After that for the last few years I have been shooting and AMS fire eagle with not one single problem. I just bought an Osprey I am gonna give the lever bow craze a try.

Oh yeah i am a retriever fan. I have a muzzy set up but just dont like it as much as the bottle.

I bought a cheap Alpine and love it, Went from a bottle reel to a Muzzy what a great choice. love the new set up.

I would consider myself a subject matter expert on archery hunting on land. However, I know nothing about bow fishing. In April I am buying a bow for fishing. I am going to need one of you guys to come with me and help me get set up with first class equipment. I want to give this a try this summer.
