What you putting it on?
Copperhead makes the best small surface drives on the market. End of story. No other company comes close.

 Re: copperhead 6.5 motor
I have had 3. All were some great engines. I started with a 6.5 then a 12 now a 18 all on the same size layout boat. In my opinion I would not buy another 6.5. I would pay the extra and get the 12. World of difference.

 Re: copperhead 6.5 motor
I do not remember but I run them on 12' long 38" bottom layout boats. The boat does not draft much difference if any. With the 18hp I find the boat drafts more shallow because the back of the boat does not swat as much with a gas tank up front.

 Re: copperhead 6.5 motor
I've had 3 over the years, great motors. The 6.5 (I believe they are 7 hp now) weigh around 72-74 lbs, the 10 lists at 110 lbs, the 12 at 120 lbs, and the 18 at 140 lbs. A 12' jon seems a bit small to me for anything bigger than the 6.5, a 14' would be better, but I know guys that have run the 12 on the shorter boats and seemed to do Ok. I'd just be concerned it would be butt heavy and might get some water in over the transom if you slow down too fast. They are fast little motors for sure.
