New Half Ton Trucks...whats the best?
always been ford guy and like their sorta new look but my mom's '06 Ford truck sucks at acceleration when pulling even my boat...has that changed much?
Like the comfort of the new chevy's and their design but with current status kinda iffy on them
Have only seen the outside of new dodges and like their look but again with their current situation kinda iffy on them too
Like the Tundras but hear they suck the gas like crazy
dont really care for Nissan
Whats anyone's thoughts on best package for comfor, power with pulling boat, but still somewhat fuel efficient for normal driving

Re: New Half Ton Trucks...whats the best?
Well this will prolly end up just like a MB, PD, GT, GD thread but ill go ahead and put my two cents in. Just to let you know, i have not owned a 1/2 ton truck since i was 16 so i am going off of what i have seen in my friends trucks and these are only my opinions.
Ford- to me is the best in comfort and style, but as you said its still lacking in the power department for me. But it they do pull our boats with no problem, unfortunately it has such a high torque curve.
Chevy- second in comfort and style. it will prolly get you the best mpg pulling and non pulling than any other truck. ive seen a half ton chevy pull things i would have thought a 3/4 would pull. the 5.3 is a peppy little motor and will not weigh you down on fuel.
Dodge- to me dodge has a hit on thier hands with the new trucks. the styling in the interior has come a long way from the old dodges. the hemi puts out tremendous power, but doesnt get good mpg. my step-sister bought a 2009 trx dodge 1/2 ton and pulled a 18 ft bayliner ski boat from South Carolina to LA and got around 11 towing.
Toyota- to be completely honest i think the tundra is the ugliest truck i have ever seen. it is way to bubbly for me and it looks like a beetle coming down the road. the 5.7 in the tundras have to be babied in order to get good mpg.
I would stick with the big 3 even in the current situation of the companies. I say go check out all 3. they will all have their ups and their downs. hope this helps.

I got an 08 sierra crew cab 4x4 and I like it overall. I like it overall and get about 15.5 average and I have a lead foot. I like the fords but lack in the power department. I would only buy ford or chevy though.

I dont really care for the tundras looks either and have good and bad on them
does anyone think Ford has gained anything in power since '06? Could always chip it just curious on stock
this gets picky and cant remember if ford offers it but one thing i love bout chevy is the driver passenger air controls b/c cant stand when girls get in the truck and bitch bout it bein cold and im burnin up lol

Don't really care about power. They didn't recieve any bailout funds though! Thats what matters to me. GMC, Dodge and chevy will never get another penny from me!! They have recieved enough of my money from Obama.

Re: New Half Ton Trucks...whats the best?
Don't know where some are getting their numbers, but when comparing apples to apples engine wise the F150 (5.4) has 310hp @ 5000 rpm & 365ftlbs of torque @ 3500. The Chevy (5.3) 315hp @ 5200rpm & 335 ftbls of torque @ 4000rpm.
Now if you jump up to the 6.2 in the chevy then your at 403hp @ 5700 & 417ftlbs @ 4300.
I don't know about you, but I seldom run down the road at 4000+ rpm towing a boat.

Re: New Half Ton Trucks...whats the best?
I have a powerstroke diesel 7.3 F-250 so I cant really say what is the best 1/2 ton out there but if I was going to get one I would get the F-150 5.4L. Thats just what I like but I will tell you I have a close friend who has a 4 door Titan and when we all go out of state 4 wheeler riding we take it cause it pulls 4 bikes and a truckload of people like it aint squat! That thing got power and for the price he paid you cant beat it. To each is there own tho.

Re: New Half Ton Trucks...whats the best?
Chevy/ GMC interior is first in my opinion. I have a 2500HD GMC Z71 Duramax and it is a freakin beast, the thing i love most about it is how it rides and the comfortability and also the fornt end. I love the front end on the GMC's but don't really care for the CHevy's front end. My friend has the 1500 and it is a fine looking truck. I was a ford man for a long time but the newer gas engines are TURDs and so are the DIESEL's. Just like the guy said above trucks are like MM's you have to go and drive them and see what best suit's you! Good luck and hop e you like whatever you buy. Oh for the Record i did ride in a Platinum Ford F-150 the other day and that myfriend is a fine truck!

Re: New Half Ton Trucks...whats the best?
Two days ago I picked up my new company truck, a 2010 Chevy Silverado 1500. I drive 42K to 45K a year so company trucks last me a little more than two years before they are replaced. My last three company trucks were Chevys: two 1500 half tons and one (my last truck) 2500. In over 300K miles between the three trucks I have never had one of them in for a repair. Maintenance, yes...repairs, NO!
Our salesforce drives either Chevys or Fords...our choice. The guys with late model Ford pickups have had repeated problems with considerable time in the shop.
The guys who are driving the 5.3 liter Chevys get 17-21 on the road depending on load and driving style. Since I just turned 200 miles on the new truck odometer I can't yet tell you what MPG I am getting.
I have loved all of my Chevy trucks for their ride, interior comfort, exterior styling and their ability to take a beating without failing. I sell construction equipment and I put these trucks to a test of their hauling limits.
If I was to go out and spend my own money on a truck tomorrow, it would be a Chevy or a GMC.

Re: New Half Ton Trucks...whats the best?
you can sit here and argue about which is the better truck all day and you will get nowhere. as long as ford and chevy are still open, there will always be your ford guys and your chevy guys. me personally i drive a ford f-150 but i would buy a chevy before a dodge or nissan. what you need to look at is what u like and what kind of service dept they have cause u will visit them. I bet u 90% of the time its a forked up service dept. that makes people buy different brands.
in the end they are all the same.. they all break

GM has a 5yr 100k mile warranty. Ford has only 5yr 60k mile i am pretty sure. Just something else to think about.

Re: New Half Ton Trucks...whats the best?
Just going off my experience...I traded in my 2000 GMC Sierra at the beginning of this year for a 2008 Ford F150 and I have not been very impressed with it. The acceleration and power are just not there. I am now getting 10mpg city and about 13mpg highway (no load) but I am bringing it in to the shop because I think something is going on with it. Where as when I bought it I was getting around 14mpg city and 17-18mpg highway.

Re: New Half Ton Trucks...whats the best?
First tank of gas on the brand new Chevy 1500, consisting of a bit of highway driving and a lot of city, was 14.6 MPG. This is with the 5.3L and the 6 speed tranny, 3.42 rear end. Not bad for a first tank. Other guys in our fleet are getting 17-21 and occasionally 22 mpg depending on driving conditions. I think this is pretty good fuel economy for a full-sized truck. This truck has that fuel management system which shuts you down to four cylinders when you don't need eight. You can watch the indicator change but you never feel a thing. Pretty slick.

Re: New Half Ton Trucks...whats the best?
Gm half tons will get the best fuel economy all around.. Period. If you want power all you need is a custom tune from somone using HP Tuners or EFI Live. The ONLY drawback to half ton GM were the 4L60E transmission and the 8.5" 10 bolt rear axle. Some never have a problem some do..
THe newer GM half tons have the option of a 6 speed auto I THINK.... NOT positive yet, but if you can get it DO IT. the engine stays in the powerband throughout the shifting process.
I have a 2005 Chevy 2500HD 4x4 crew cab with 33's and EFI live tune No trailer city It will get 10-11 MPG No trailer highways it will get 14 MPG average Towing my boat I get about 11 MPG highway and it will drop if im in town and stop alot. Heavy loads it gets 8 MPG towing
My half ton Z-71 was a 2006 Extended cab with 3.42 gears and the High output L33 all aluminum 5.3L stock tires 75 MPH highway would get 19 MPG I put 305' on it and the mileage dropped to 16.5 MPG highway at 75 MPH hgihways at 65 I couls squeeze 17.5 -18 at times with the big tires.
Towing a boat 65 MPH it would get 15 MPG. Only think I wish it had was 3.73 gears... Now my Brothers 2002 Z-71 has 4.10s and for a half tone it has some balls.. SOme food for thought..

Re: New Half Ton Trucks...whats the best?
Mr Willet with truck deals that are going on today I would step up to a 3/4 ton diesel. I have a OBS PSD [19-20mpg]with highway gears and I have no reason to ever look back at a half ton truck. Now I do pull a big wide heavy plateboat [12-15mpg] everyday and that may help my mindset. I have driven and rode in several of the new three quarter ton trucks and as soon as my daughters graduate from college I'm treating myself to a new Duramax. I thought about a half ton truck but after riding in my brothers newer ford I can't drop back in power. If all I was pulling was my GDSD I may consider a lighter truck. Good luck on this one. I could not even begin to tell you how I would go. I have always driven a Ford but........

my last two trucks were/are chevy, and they are nice! Drove fords for a while and after buying a chevy, i dont think I'll ever go back to ford. As much time as I spend in a truck I wanted one that was comfortable, but still had get up and go. Chevy is for me.

thanks for all the responses and keepin it to the facts (some opinions which are good) and not gettin in a big pissin match over it (hopefully doesnt go to shit after that comment lol)
Can someone tell me what the biggest difference in the chevy and GMC trucks are
Someone mentioned the front ends looking better on the GMC and I have always thought that too since they changed from the old 90's model square body but other then the front end whats the difference? is one priced different or considered to be the better or higher quality of the two?

Quality is all the same.I prefer the BOW TIE over the GMC.The GMC has a little more bling on it.Price should be the close to the same.

how much of difference in power as well as fuel economy will you see between the 4.8 V8 and the 5.3 V8?

Re: New Half Ton Trucks...whats the best?
DO NOT GET THE 4.8!!!!! I do not care what the sticker on the window or the salesman is telling you.The 4.8 belongs in a short wheel base single cab truck.
I bought my wife a 07 Chevy crew cab with the 4.8.Thinking it would be plenty for her since she would not be pulling.WRONG it got the same millage as my Z71 with the 5.3 and was powerless. To much truck for that engine. My Dads 05 5.3 2wd Crew Cab 21mpg My 06 5.3 Z71 Crew Cab 18.5mpg My Wifes 07 4.8 2wd Crew Cab 18mpg ( Sold that biatch and got her a rice burner for my long trips )

Re: New Half Ton Trucks...whats the best?
Facts about GM motors.... 4.8 and 5.3 have the same bore size/ pistons 4.8 is a short stroke motor that loves to rev and make power at high rpms. Less torque... 5.3 and the 6.0 have the same length stroke 6.0 has a bigger bore at 4" over the 4.8L and the 5.3L
So with that said 4.8/5.3 same bore 5.3/6.0 same stroke 6.0 bigger bore
4.8 and 5.3 came in the majority of half tons except the Vortecmax has the 6.0. Get the best small block V8 you can.. 5.3 has better torque than the 4.8L and thats what you want when towing.

Wily
Come drive my 09 ford and you will get you one.
I had that 05 and it wouldnt pull my rig worth a crap. Now the 09 has more room and will outrun my dads powerstroke at the start. it is still lackign from 65-70 but over 70 it will roll with it all day.
i got the 5.4 with 3.55 and the 6 speed trany.

Re: New Half Ton Trucks...whats the best?
I get 15 pulling my boat to Dekalb at 70 mpg
under 60 mph i get 17 mpg
going 70-75 on I-20 to my lease in Winters i get 19-21 depends on the wind.
if i keep it at 65-70 i get 22+ depends on the area im driving.
In my 05 with the 5.4 and 3.73 with 5 speed auto i got 10-15 no all the time loaded or not
Last week when i put my rig back together and drug it around from lake to lake (396 miles) i got on average of 11.7 on 1 tank of gas. That was going from the Red River backroading all the way to Tatum TX.
FYI......... My rig with my hunting stuff in it is close to 2-3K lbs.

Go here and click on the "donate a mammogram". This doesn't cost you a thing. Their corporate sponsors/advertisers use the number of daily visits to donate mammogram in exchange for advertising.
